My CHINONs have metallic belts. Do they ever need to be replaced and, if so, would I use rubber belts or do I need to hunt down the identical belts from 'parts' CHINONs off of EBAY?

Anybody have an answer to my question above?

Well you either have the only Chinon left in the world or no one has had to replace belts.

If it has metal belts why would you want to replace them? If you just need something to do you can come over and weed my front yard [Wink] .

Are there any rubber parts such as idler rollers in the drive? Those as the parts I think would wear.

Remember the old adage, "if it ain't broke, don't fix it".

So are you having problems with the drive mechanism?

John

When the projector is first turned on the take-up reel seems to be a tad sluggish. At the very beginning of a reel and towards the end of same reel, the sound gets warbly. It's fine during the middle of a reel. Very odd. Thought it might be the belt was stretched (even if it is aluminum or some kind of slinky material). I've noticed that only Chinons have these type of belts. All the other projectors I've ever seen have rubber belts. If it's the head.... O'h Brother....... I can't figure out how to clean it. The sound head seems to be enclosed in some sort of plastic shell. There's certainly not enough room to fit a q-tip with alcohol on it.

Brad, I had a problem with a stretched(from years and years of normal(?)use)spring metal belt in my Chinon 7500 some years ago, and I removed a small portion and re-attached it(the remaining belt)...this worked for me, brought the tension back to where it should be. You can also try making a belt of equal size with belt material you can get from Urbanski. Hope this helps.
