I have an ELMO ST 180M and when my brother looked at K40 being projected he said the colours of the whites are a orangey colour.
So then i started to look at the projected whites and with no film run through the elmo the white is not really white and it seemed better by placing an 82A filter in the lens?
Anyone tried to correct the whites as i have never noticed it before but now i can see what he means all films shot have a tendency to have this browning of the white colours.
Any ideas to make it more life like?

I haven't come across that at all and bearing in mind I've shot a lot of Kodachrome skiing I would have thought I'd have noticed orange snow. I'll have to check.

I think the problem may be the lens. I had an old ST1200 with the f1.3 15-25mm lens which I remember definately put a slight orange cast on the projected image. When I replaced the lens with the better quality f1.2 and f1.0 lenses the picture was much whiter. The f1.3 lens may have different coatings ,or maybe its the use of plastic optics in the f1.3 versus glass in the f1.2 and f1.0. Either way, I thought the f1.3 was a poor quality lens.

I have to agree with Paul, i would definitely check the lens out. I would also say that by using filters you would be dropping the level of light output on to the screen.
If you can, try another lens or see if you get similar results from another projector, i must say i have never noticed this.

Hi,
Firstly thanks for all the replies and you may have the problem i suppose it could be the lens i didnt know it was plastic optics in the f1.3.
I can see that i will have to look at the lens more closely.
One more question that you may be able to answer if you were to project a blank image(no film) on to a screen with a 12v100w elmo projector should the white projected image be as white as you would get from say a computer monitor(white screen view)
What im trying to see is if it is the lamp colour and its just how thing are as i would say the projection at the moment is just like looking through an 81A warming filter its too much to say its orange but on the other hand its not white,and im not sure its just how the 100w type bulbs are?
