I hear so much Ebay bashing on these forums..especially among film folks, that I just had to let you know about a wonderful and surprising bit of good fortune. A seller in Michigan, USA had up for auction an Elmo St 800 --it look it good shape. I asked the usual questions....they said it worked well with the test film provided...and I bid and unexpectedly won. Not only was the seller a charming and friendly woman , but when the projector arrived ( with lightening speed) I found it to be not only in good condition, but actually brand new....with all accessories, reels, cords, etc..still sealed in their original plastic bags. The machine itself absolutely mint. Of course, many times people buy "mint" machines only to find them inoperable due to deteriorated belts. Not this baby.......perfect operating condition. It was like I was back in the late 1970's unpacking a new projector....( which is when this one was made, I believe).
Altogether a great experience. Now I have a backup to my two st1200's. I was thrilled . So not all Ebay equipment and film transactions turn sour. Not at all.

Hi Gary, I'm glad to know that you got a good deal. I have had both good and bad experiences with projectors on eBay. Regardless of how new in the box everything is; let me know how the rewind clutch holds up. I had a problem with the cork in the clutch in the "new" ST800 I have.

Hi Joe,

I bought an ST-800 last year in nice shape. The only thing is the rewind doesn't work correctly. What was your rewind trouble and what did you do about it?

Thanks!

I have been really lucky with my Ebay experiences in regards to projectors. With the exception of the guy from T.A.I.L.S. who sold me a bad Eumig HQS. It took me 6 months and dealing with the fraud dept. of the US postal service to do it. But I got it! [Smile]
Checking feedback and asking the right questions has helped me a lot. You can tell a lot by the seller by his responses to your inquiries.
Glad to hear you got the "right stuff baby!"

I've run only a couple of films on mine and have had no problems so far with rewind. Keeping fingers crossed.
