Just joined, thought I'd say hi!

Been making animated films on super-8 for years but only recently became interested in collecting them! Got myself a sound projector at the BFCC and was amazed to see the amount of films on sale there, never seen the like! [Smile]

Found this forum via the one at www.filmshooting.com (hi Mike!)

I've picked up a few films here + there at car boot sales etc in the past, but now I have more idea what's out there, and a decent projector, I fear for my bank balance! [Smile] I managed to restrain myself at the BFCC despite all the temptation, picked up a couple of cheap shorts but was mainly after the projector.

I'll no doubt post various stupid questions soon! [Smile]

Tim,

Great to have you onboard and I am sure we will all learn a lot from you. The web site looks fantastic and I intend to spend some time there when I get chance!

Hello Tim

Good to see you here [Smile] .

Don't worry about asking stupid questions, that's what we all do all the time, just don't ask what people use to clean and lubricate their film! [Roll Eyes]

But, Mike, what do you use to clean and lubricate your films? [Big Grin]

Won't do it again... I promise... [Razz]

Mike uses a patented product to clean his films, it's called Sinisterium !

Jean-Marc

I just put them in a big [ nicely illustrated ] box with Rexette the stripper and let them get on with it!

Mh... Interesting. I was thinking of training two snails, one on each side of the film, so they could leave a nice trail of mucus while running the print through a very slow ( very, very, slow) rewind process.

Hi Tim,
Good to have you in the 'community', and if you bank balance suffers, think of the important contribution you are making to keeping the dealers and distributors going!
I've tended to think that film makers and students are always a good potential source of 'new blood' when it comes to collecting, but I don't know if there's much evidence of this.

Welcome aboard Tim. Harrow! not far from the Lightwater brigade of six. Now if you and Mark from Heathrow way came aboard we could make it the lightwater 8 [Big Grin]
The trouble is that we would be needing a hall for our little get togethers.
You will find the forum a friendly place most of the time and there will allways be someone somewher in the world with an answer to any questions you may have. Just ask away however silly you might think they sound.

Enjoy.

Tim,
Welcome on board, i have just watched your Holy grail lego film and lego spiderman, amazing and very funny.

No, both of those (and most of our recent stuff) were shot on video, alas. [Frown] Lots of postproduction fiddling about to try and make it all look less DV-like!

Most of my super-8 isn't online, though our very silly LEGO zombie movie All of the Dead was shot on S8, and my very strange college final project Remarkably Bold Venture of the Rabbit contains some too. But neither example does justice to how nice 8mm can really look on video!! (or for that matter how well I can focus the camera! [Smile] )

Welcome aboard! Great to see you have found the nice super 8 haven!
And if you think these guys are great online...wait till you meet them in person...they are even nicer! And taller too... [Smile]
