Just to let those interseted know, the final setup is being sorted for the 24 fps rubber clutch drives,(rubber wheel only) for the 1200D/HD, and it looks as though i should be getting the 18fps done as well, (just witing for confirmation) the plan is that they will be sold as a pair and hopefully should cost around £12.00 for the pair + carrage. I am waiting for the proto types to be supplied and tested,(by a well qualified projector repair specialist) and once the ok given they will be done within two weeks of me saying. I am having 50 pairs done. Be in touch via this site and all being well the mags. [Wink] [Cool]

How easy are these to install/change? I might be interested but don't know if I could do the job myself.

It's quite easy really. We will talk you through it when you want to do the job.

Hello Tom
It was a while ago we exchanged emails about these rubbers - I can assure you of my order for seven sets if they are around the £12 mark per set (or just the 24fps ones if the 18fps ones are not available). From reading your article in Projections magazine today it is disapointing to hear such a low response from Elmo owners may jeopardise your efforts to make these drive rubbers a reality - come on ST1200 owners, respond and order some now. Hopefully bringing this thread back up will remind some people of the efforts Tom has made to make these parts available to help us keep our machines working smoothly.

Tom, email me where to send the cheque!

Being an ST-1200HD owner, I'm left to wonder whether it would be worth for me to put down an order for these or not. My machine works just fine and the existing rubber rollers seem to be in good shape.

There is one minor thing. After not using the projector for a while, when I first turn it on and engage forward projection, it runs sluggish for about a second - to the effect of very noticeable flicker on the screen - but then quickly reaches full speed and works reliably thereafter. Subsequent switching between forward, reverse and off modes has the machine kicking right up to speed as long as I'm using it.

I'm guessing this is a momentary lack of friction between the rollers and the shutter wheel due to a cold start. It's not bothering me at this point, but is this anything I should be worrying about in the near future?

Jan,

Yes buy some. Where are you going to get some if you ever need them? They are not expensive and we should support Tom for his efforts in getting them made. He is not selling for a profit and should not be left holding stock.

I bought the original full rubber and metal part from Tom although like you I have no current need but I know sometime soon I surely will. The ST will go on forever if we hold enough of these vital parts

Tom. I would still like to buy one, I don’t have an ST 1200 at the moment but if it helps to make the project viable I’m happy to have one in readiness in case I could use it in the future. Just let me know how much the cheque should be made out for and where to send it.

Also, I shall be having a stall again at the May BFCC so if you want me to have a few on there with some sort of write up about them, it might reach a few added ST owners who don’t read the mags’ or have internet access…

Thank you all. very encouraging, and i also had a phone call last night fron another Gent for a pair, i shall update the list, Thanks very much Kevin for the possible 7 sets and welcome to the forum, look forward to meeting everyone again in October for the 50th, (the stage photo will be wider than Kieths Screen [Big Grin] ) that does give it a boost, hopefully when the Next FFTC mag comes out next month that may make up the total, very much appreciated, Tony, thank you for the offer of the cheque but as promised i shall ensure enough orders 1st and as soon as i get enough i promise to update everyone, Only dissapointment was that the actual advert for these didnt actuall get into the projections mag so i'll chase that one up,
I promise if all goes ok and i get them done that no one will be dissapointed with the quality, as i said in the mag, if Mr Parsons is happy with it then it has to be good. [Wink]
Jan, might not be a bad idea to get a set if all goes well this end but it does sound like you need new belts, the slow start up is a sign of belt wear, when/if you change them clean up the pulleys before the new ones go on, also clean up the outer edge of the shutter. [Wink]

Posted by Jan Bister (Member # 332) on May 06, 2005, 06:28 PM:

Tom, I've actually done all that already, the belts are brand-spanking-new. [Smile] Perhaps there is some minute amounts of grease left on the shutter wheel - I shall re-investigate. [Smile]
Tony does make a very good point, it can't hurt to have a set of new rollers just in case! So put me down for an order as well, and I'll be awaiting payment instructions from you. [Smile]
(BTW, can you accept PayPal?)

Unforunatly not but bere with me and i'll add you to the list and then when the next FFTC mag comes out i'll see if that works enough to go ahead, as always i promise to keep you up to date.
Thanks Jan [Wink]

Since my ultimate goal is to someday own an Elmo ST1200D or HD, go ahead and put me down for a pair. 12 pounds would equal about $22 or $23 ?

Thanks! [Smile]

Mike.

Wow, 12 pounds - that's cheaper than I thought. [Smile] Don't ask me why but somehow I'd gotten the strange idea that the set was 18 pounds, not 12. *embarrassed* [Roll Eyes] And yes, that works out to about $22-$23.

Mike, the ST-1200D is a great machine but go for an ST-1200HD since it's the only version of the ST-1200 with twin-track sound and the capability for stereo playback (using an external amp). [Smile]

This is more like it - I can count about 11 orders in the above recently posted replies including some real heroes there who don't own a ST1200 of any flavour but will still go for the parts to make this happen for others, or ready for when they get one of these models themselves, what a fantastic gesture, thank you. Add on all the other Elmo ST1200 owners out there who HAVE NOT YET COMMITTED to this yet but I am sure will [Wink] and with a good write up in FFTC hopefully Tom will soon get more than the minimum 50 order he needs.

I had an idea, actually. What if those of us who regularly (or at least sometimes) sell on eBay were to take orders for small quantities, instead of just one for each of us, keep a set and resell the others on eBay. This should really help Tom fill the minimum order plus allow us to reach many ST-1200 owners out there who don't even know about this forum. [Smile]

Well, I've got to say you blokes are Gems, hopefully in the next FFTC (due out next month) my own pages there may hopefully do the buisness, i appreciate what you guy's are saying and am very greatful to everyone, and of course to those previous who took the clutch units as well,
Maybe also at he 50th convention in October any i have left may be moved on there. So far so good. [Wink]

Tom & all, sorry for bringing this one back up again but I really do need these parts, has there been an improved uptake since the FFTC article? I'm hoping you are getting closer to the 50 orders needed - I'm still after seven sets, or at least one 24fps type (even a dodgy prototype!) to get my spare machine going for now [Frown] .
Kevin

I second that!... More and more I think getting these replacement rollers would make a world of difference in my Elmo, I'm still experiencing occasional "slip-ups" (in a rather literal way), particularly at the 18fps setting. Also can't seem to quite eliminate the problem with some very slight 'wow' in the sound.

Embarrased though i am,unfortunatly at the mo im still only half way. [Frown] Ive not forgotten and do promise to keep this one going. Sorry guys, if it was only a few pounds i'd certainly get them and keep them till all sold but it is a total price of around £500 for 50 pairs. I do have my list of requests and will place another ad to projections. (they didint put my last one in for some reason) [Confused]

Just to add my comment. I know Tom that I have contacted you by e-mail. I have now registered on the forum and would like confirm a order for thes drive rubbers. Looking at my Elmo the 24fps rubber looks like its wearing. I would just like to say many thanks for your aticles in FFTC magazine these have been very interesting and helpful. And to your efforts in getting these drive rubbers in production. Many thanks.

Thanks Colin, appreciated. Ive now added to the list.
At the weekend i'll check and see how close i am. [Wink]

Hello Colin & welcome to the forums, great to hear you use an Elmo ST1200HD & have added to the order from Tom.
Tom, sorry if it seems we are giving you a hard time with this order - you know all your efforts are appreciated. Your sig. has a double meaning now - 50th BFCC coming up & 50th order (hopefully) nearly there for these drive rubbers [Wink]

Do keep on me men, i'll keep pushing.
I'm going to have a word with the engineers on Monday to see if they will relent and allow me 30 pairs as a minimum order. I cant see why they wont. Even if it added a quid or two to the price. I'll report back shortly.
Thank you to everyone for being so patient. [Wink]
