Just curious - as Derann, EvT, etc, are able to stripe 8mm films - apparently with no legal problems relating to the chemical composition of the stripe - can anyone explain why Kodak had to stop manufacturing Super 8 sound film cartridges? I may be overlooking something, but could they not simply use a different formulation, as used by others?

The trouble with Kodak was money, they were losing so much of it because there equipment was so old, a lot of camera stock was being junked because of poor stripe, and as the quantity they were selling fell, they could not see the sense in upgrading (replacing) there striping machine. This was also the reason given for the double 8mm stock used for package movies, as all the equipment for striping was so old and frail, it just was not econimacly viable anymore.

That does not surprise me, but I thought the 'official' reason was regulations prohibiting the use of the relevant chemicals?

I suppose striping camera stock is a nightmare if it all has to be done 'in the dark'?
