Will you all be at the 50th in October, Do you think it'l be a biggy, will all the dealers try and make it as a one off, and who got the bargin of the day today?
How did the M&Comander extract go down, i cant wait for October,i may even even bring my cam corder, lets have some interviews, good all fashioned point and shoot on the spot, maybe you blokes can give me some tips on the day,

As always superb organisation from John, Keith and the crowd. Businer than the last one I am told probably because Perry's were not in residence (lol).

Have to say the clip of M&C was awsome and made the other scope films look dull by comparison. If the final result is anything like as good it will be a real treat.

Derann were even giving free films away [Eek!]

great that Jean-Marc made it, nice to have met you and we should certainly look to a trip to France next January

M&C looked awsome. Thats the best way to describe it. The one thing that really made it stand out was its sharpness. It's a long time since I have seen a Scope print look so sharp with all the deatil leaping off the screen. Well done Derann [Wink]

It was also good to hear that the numbers attending the BFCC were up on last year. May the BFCC carry on for another 10 yrs at least.

Have to agree with all that's already been said, Master and Commander was indeed the highlight of the show. The print really is excellant with cracking definition and even on that whopping 24ft screen it looked crisp. Very much looking forward to taking delivery of my copy.

Good to hear that numbers were up, there was certainly evidence of that on our stall as all the cameras were sold [mostly to student sorts] within the first hour and a half. Also found new homes for three projectors and a whole bunch of films and bits and pieces so all in all a very successful day. [Smile]

As usual I came home with an arm full of films, new and second hand, including Classics two 007 releases which, like Master and Commander looked fantastic on that big screen.

I've got the projector set up in the dining room so shall be spending the rest of the evening watching my purchases. [Smile]

Great to meet Jean Marc and all the other new faces who came and said hello, it's nice to put faces to names. A big thankyou to Keith and the crew for putting on another great event.

I'm home... Knackered but happy.

It was a great day at the BFCC and it was fantastic to meet with some of the members.

Had a great time as a special guest of the Lightwater gang. Mike's table was an excellent gathering point for all of us.

I attended two of the screenings and that gave me the opportunity to have a look at all of the new releases from Derann and CHC.

M&C was indeed incredible... I had never seen such a sharp super 8 print. This was my first encounter with synchronized digital sound and I am very impressed.

(I also need to add that it was somehow comforting to realize that I was not the only one fidgeting with focus while screening a scope lens [Wink]

)

) I've been a regular customer of the Dudley crew for quite a few years but never had the chance to meet with them in person. Special thanks to them for holding some of my stuff while I was browsing the aisles.

New releases were a-plenty at Phil Sheard's table. My compatriot Daniel Florence snatched the last S8 print of Pixar's "knick-knack" so I grabbed the last remaining 16mm print (poor me... [Frown]

Keith Wilton, a man and his (really big) screen...
Keith and I had a long passionate chat about 3D. The shows were great, congrats to the organizers.

I came home sounding like a knight in armor (courtesy of a job lot of 1200ft metal spools purchased from Derann), which is quite appropriate since I also (finally) found reel #2 of "Monty Python and the Holy Grail".

Well, here's to the next BFCC. I'll definitely try to come again.

I have to agree with what has been posted already, an excellent day all round. I got some great bargains and a nice healthy boost to my collection. [Wink]

Master & Commander is by far the highest quality print I have seen so far! Even on a 24ft screen. Derann are to be congratulated on the quality of this feature & I wish them every success with sales. Those with confirmed orders will not be disappointed.

Thank god I managed to escape the roving camera of Jean-Marc, nice to meet you in person, hope that we can meet again one day. [Smile]

Tom, I can confirm that there was no Perry’s Granddad is on holiday. What a shame he missed a busy BFCC. [Big Grin]

Finally I would like to thank Keith Wilton & John Clancy for another pleasurable day out & I look forward to the 50th. Those who have not been, or could not attend for whatever reason, I urge you all to attend the 50th. Something tells me it will be spectacular.

I thought it was a very good day. Sorry I did not catch up with anyone on this list, although I did so much talking my voice has nearly gone!

I agree about M&C looking very good, although I always find myself thinking that if that screen was about 20% smaller, all the S8 would look significantly brighter and sharper, which might encourage potential buyers irresoective of the title.

I heard indications that the dealers were having a good day. I can recall some of these events where (e.g.) the Derann stall has been deserted after about 2pm, but that was not the case today.

Good to hear about the student-types bying cameras - we need to encourage this element as much as possible in order to bring in new blood.

I don't think I've ever seen so few films (on film) on the bring and buy, although I can't complain as it probably causes more film-starved buyers to purchase mine!

As usual, on this side of the Atlantic we are all very envious of the British film collecting scene. Sound's like Keith and John put on yet another blockbuster show. I wonder what their plans are for the BFCC after the 50th show in October? I'm sure everybody here hopes they will continue with the BFCC in one form or another, perhaps it might be a good idea to go to an annual convention, as opposed to two conventions a year. This would result in a focussing of available resources, and permit a larger proportion of new release presentations, as well as encouraging more dealers and collectors to attend.

It all does sound brill, my brother and i will be there for the 50th, Mike, will you have a stall again or are you all sold out?
I think you ought to have one just as a meeting point even if you have nothing to sell [Big Grin]

On the student types, that is good, i often read that the university's and also Channal 4 do use super 8 so that is interesting when you consider anyone trying to get rid of them ends up having to practically give them away.

. I can't really believe I'm going to have to miss it but am leaving for an around the world trip in September, my partner and I are going to become 'Grownup Gappers'!

We have just sold the house and I have a Sabatical organised with work so am planning to be away for twelve months. At the time of the 50th BFCC I shall be somewhere in South East Asia, by the time of the 51st I should be in North America.

If it's any consolation though, you'll be pleased to hear that I shall be taking my super 8 camera with me [Wink]

I think the Lightwater gang should have a stall anyway, just to keep up the tradition [Big Grin]

I'm very sorry to have missed this one, but I'll endeavour to attend the next one. I'm glad a good time was had by all.

What did you guys, Craig and Mike, decide about the splicer, as neither of you has mentioned it in these posts? Maybe y'all thought it would be better to see what happened to the one on eBay. Either way, I'd still like one. Mike, if you're going on a round-the-world trip shortly, maybe we could meet up sometime before you depart (I could give you a shopping list for the USA). [Big Grin]

Thanks from Keith and I to everyone who came along. And thanks to everyone else who didn't but passed on their good wishes in one form or another.

Paul, funny you should suggest an annual convention... but that's not the plan for a while - we'll just have to see how it goes event by event. The 50th BFCC has been in the planning stages for quite some time already and without giving away too much this was one of the reasons a video projector made an appearance in the Victoria Hall. Keith will now be taking his tool kit to it for the necessary modifications..... Apart from that Ben Wales is planning a spectacular 70mm show and we're expecting to show the best of Super 8 to commemorate 40 years. Keith and I have been buying films off the dealer lists with possibilities of using them in some form for the 50th for some time now. At the rate it's going we're both going to need another house in which to store all the stuff.

I feel quite emotional about yesterday, I don't know why. Possibly because I've realized lately this can't go on forever but given the appreciation of so many who came along it makes you feel like you want to at least try to go on forever. Common sense will return but right now I'm so strung out I don't think I'm capable of coherent thought.

I'll be updating the 'Past Events' section of the web site over the next few days. In the meantime I've stuck just three piccies up and the text from the programme.

Master and Command was far above my expectations, it certainly has proved that 8mm can still be made to produce suburb results.
The BFCC was once again a great success, roll on the 50th and the 100th BFCC.

And all that great looking equipment, if I had been there I would have snapped up that mint looking Specto 500 and that 9.5mm Noris. Looks like everyone had a great time. Another BFCC success!!

I sure did a double take on that projector myself... it looks kind of like a Canon T1000 (I know it isn't [Smile]

) but what I can't quite figure out is how do you run film through it and project the image such that it's right-side up and not mirrored? Is the take-up reel still on the left side, or the right? [Eek!]

Does the emulsion face away from the lens (to the right) like it normally does? It boggles my mind!

I don't know what make/model the projector is. When Aggers brings the full quality photos in I'll have a closer look at it. Looks like it says "Milan...." something or other.

I wish they'd offered back to front versions of Super 8 machines.

Frankly, though of novel appearance, there surely isn't any difference - if one imagines a normal projector - then visualise the film transport, lens, etc., etc. staying put, whilst moving the rest of the body and "works" from the far side of the lens etc., to nearest to you.

I don't actually see the problem. Obviously there will be subtle differences, such as the sprocket teeth will now be next to the projector body, and so forth, but there's nothing, as far as I can see, which will make any difference to the projected image.

Think about it!
