I've received an ebay Eumig 607, but it's a mess. Everything seemed to work, until I put film in it. In forward, film rushes through in a blur at all speeds but plays in reverse OK at 3fps; it plays in reverse at the other speeds but they all look like 18.

Does this sound like anything DIY-fixable if seller won't take it back?...John

A feeling of quiet triumph as human masters machine. In the process of clearing spiderweb, rust and other detritus of unknown origin from the mechanism, it became apparent to a friend and I that a plate carrying a gear train leading nowhere was out of alignment and wedged in the wrong place, and that the inner gear on the supply spindle didn't mesh with anything...until we managed to pop the plate back where it belonged where it could pivot up to what had to be its designated station during rewind. Voila! all the mechanical anomalies, bad sounds etc disappeared and the slow speeds all came back. We were a little crushed when film still rushed through the gate in forward. We were able to fix this however by adjusting the pressures applied by the spring-loaded nuts on the takeup and supply spindles, and the projector now runs as sweetly as an old-fashioned Singer sewing machine. A malfunctioning machine consigned long ago to someone's attic comes back to life... Now to install microswitch, get opal diffuser, build box for condenser lens from my 4x5 enlarger etc... John
