This chat between myself and Chip Gelmini just took place minutes ago... Pictures further below. [Big Grin]

quote:
[Saturday 11:59:40 PM] TaelonUSA: OMG! BRB, I forgot somethign
[Saturday 11:59:43 PM] chipgelmini: Don't remember. I know one scene is of them in a resturant trying to eat soup.
[Sunday 12:01:06 AM] TaelonUSA: Crud...
[Sunday 12:01:17 AM] TaelonUSA: I just had a nasty accident with something
[Sunday 12:01:20 AM] TaelonUSA: Wanna see what it is?
[Sunday 12:01:28 AM] chipgelmini: Sure.
[Sunday 12:01:40 AM] TaelonUSA: Standby while I take a webcam pic...
[Sunday 12:02:54 AM] *** TaelonUSA wants to directly connect.
[Sunday 12:03:31 AM] TaelonUSA: Hmm. Let me just email the picture (grumble)
[Sunday 12:03:59 AM] chipgelmini: (email address removed)
[Sunday 12:04:12 AM] TaelonUSA: Sent
[Sunday 12:04:26 AM] TaelonUSA: It's awful. It's hideous. It'll make your hair stand up!
[Sunday 12:05:06 AM] chipgelmini: How did that happen?
[Sunday 12:05:48 AM] chipgelmini: Ok that's for an Ebay sale. "This reel is in good condition. Slightly used. Selling as is."
[Sunday 12:05:53 AM] TaelonUSA: Well, you see...there's this 1200' reel I had that was warped, right...And, um.... ( LOL ) ... I read this forum post about how to "un-warp" plastic reels using spacers and residual oven heat.....
[Sunday 12:06:13 AM] TaelonUSA: Suffice it to say I turned the oven on and off, put the reel in, and forgot all about it for the next hour
[Sunday 12:06:13 AM] chipgelmini: Damn, you're lucky you didn't have a fire.
[Sunday 12:06:33 AM] chipgelmini: The fumes alone could have killed you.
[Sunday 12:06:44 AM] TaelonUSA: Nahh, I was careful not to run the oven TOO hot. Besides I turned it off before putting the reel in (it was more warm than hot)
[Sunday 12:07:10 AM] chipgelmini: You see my comment about Ebay sale? LOL
[Sunday 12:07:11 AM] TaelonUSA: Well, this is one experiment I'll never try again. Fortunately not too big of a loss there
[Sunday 12:07:15 AM] TaelonUSA: Yeah. Made me grin. [Smile]
[Sunday 12:07:43 AM] chipgelmini: Jan, you gotta post that in the forum. That's really funny, no offense there intended.
[Sunday 12:07:47 AM] TaelonUSA: Now I'm just going to have to use one of my 1600' Tayloreels to rewind Intolerance onto
[Sunday 12:07:54 AM] chipgelmini: Adding to it my Ebay punchline.
[Sunday 12:07:56 AM] TaelonUSA: You're right, I should. [Smile]
[Sunday 12:08:32 AM] chipgelmini: Maybe next time you might try warm bathtub water and a soaking. I think I heard somewhere that it works OK.
[Sunday 12:08:49 AM] TaelonUSA: With your permission, I shall simply post a snapshot of our chat on the forum (beginning with my first mention of the accident)
[Sunday 12:09:04 AM] TaelonUSA: There won't BE a next time, trust me. [Big Grin]
[Sunday 12:09:08 AM] chipgelmini: Sure. Now you have it here in writing.

Jan,

Very Dali-esque. Definitely should be displayed in a gallery.

LOL!!! I never thought of it as being Dali-esque. Indeed, he would probably be green with envy at my "work of art" right now. [Big Grin] Anyway... I'm not too upset I lost the reel, it was one of two that I got for cheap and I still had a metal 1200' reel to use in place of this one (only now I'm out of empty 1200' ones). All's good [Smile]

Curious as to why you stuck it in the oven in the first place? Had you been cleaning it? With your temps out there I would have thought it would dry without using an oven.

Kev.

The sad part is: I think I can still use the center hole as it's made of metal - for what, I don't know yet, but just knowing that I can has me looking for a new purpose for it... yes, I am positively mad [Big Grin]

Jan has done what McDonalds will never do.

A rare job well done. [Big Grin]

*laughs out loud*

I wonder if I could rescue the reel by placing it in a sealed container filled with FilmRenew for a couple weeks... [Big Grin] [Big Grin] Nahh, just kidding [Cool]
