I picked up a couple of copies of this new incarnation of German publication "Schmalfilm" today at The Widescreen Centre. £7 per copy over the counter and given what is within its pages looks to be worth every penny. A subscription of 69Euros / $79 will give you the next six issues.

I'm very impressed. This is how to do a cine magazine - a bit of style.

Hi John,

I received a free copy of the first issue, due to the fact that I had registered my support for Kodachrome 40 through the magazine.

I was particularly interested in the article regarding film having stood the test of time, whilst the 'other' formats still have their knickers in a twist until the definitive format appears - if it ever does.

Question is:- How do I convince my wife that film is still the way to go, instead of transferring all our cine onto DVD? [Confused]

Hi David,

You don't have to choose between them. Just keep the films and transfer them to DVD too. It's better to have a copy on a different format.

i to recieved a free copy after putting my name on the Kodak petition. what a mag , and what generosity of the company to send out free editions. It just goes to show cine is far from deaths door. People,(collector)power at its best.

I also got a copy free, and I new this was coming out months ago as they approached me to place an advert, but being a very small dealer I just could not afford there prices (I believe it was something in the rgion of £400 for a small ad), and after glancing at my free copy I noticed that ther was not one U.K. film dealer with an advert, not even DERANN . I must admit that I did enjoy reading it, and it brought back many memories of other film magazines like MOVIE MAKER & FILM MAKING but I think if it is to become popular with the majority of this Forum's members then a package movie section would have to be included, if only a page to start with, but their is very little mention in the whole publication on the package movie side, and I think this will have to be approached by the publisher. We may be a small market, but worldwide it is still in the hundreds, and that is potential sales they will be missing out on, and with Kodak dropping some of their cartidge ranges, I doubt if their are enough 16mm film users to warrant publishing the magazine.

Agreed Barry. The publishers have already been in contact with Keith Wilton so we'll see if anything develops there. No news yet.

& of course this is the sort of mag (and very well done to) that could give the hobby a little boost. Many many people i speak to about my hobby dont even believe that cine films are still availible let alone still get new releases. They are amazed. [Eek!]

I went ahead and purchased a couple hundred of the first issue of Small Format magazine at a very low price to help try and get the magazine distributed in the Southern California area.

Distribution is something I may or may not be doing for future issues but for the time being I can sell the first issue at less than the official price.

If you have a location in Southern California (or want to suggest one) that has customer traffic and would like Small Format Magazines there no upfront charge if the location is close enough for me to deliver the magazines to.

I'm just looking to come close to making my break even point (currently $3.00 per magazine but that may rise because of gas costs).

If somebody wants to prepay for 10 magazines the good news is I can ship them in the U.S. for $40.00 for 10 magazines.

If you are already dealing direct with Small Format Magazine then ignore this offer, I'm trying to reach locations that Small Format Magazine has not reached yet.

Small Format Magazine

In Southern California the magazine is now available at Camarillo Camera, News Mart (Canoga Park, CA), Echo Park Film Center.

Apparently Bel Air Camera in Westwood California has it as well, but still waiting to confirm that.

The magazine looks great. Anyone know where i can pick up a copy in NYC? Also I believe at an advertising rate of 400 sterling.. that seems very high. Super 8 is an amateur filming format so I think it would be very hard to get advertisers at those high rates.

Alan, if you think someone in New York would be willing to stock the magazine, it would cost the facility $40.00 for me to send 10 magazines.
