Had a chance to take a glance at this new pulication from Germany and I have to say it's like picking up a copy of the old Movie Maker/Film Making mags we all enjoyed in the 70/80s.
I never thought there would be another glossy mag produced like this one, but here it is and its full of useful information for the 8mm enthusiast, beautifully produced, full colour like a mag you would buy in your local magazine store. All in English too.
Now we just need to see some film reviews incorporated and it will be a great all round read.
If anyone is interested in subscribing to it then just send an email to:

info at atollmedien.de change the at to @ and remove the spaces.

They need our support if the mag is to continue.

Spot on Kevin. It is like having Movie Maker all over again and I can't believe it's here either. I hope enough people show their support so it can continue and give it the life it needs in order that we may see a film collecting side included in it too.

I don't know, it's 2005 and a full glossy cine magazine has appeared, Derann have released Master and Commander full length, the major conventions are still going, my main Super 8 projector has just received the most amazing upgrade and looking at it in these terms the hobby is thriving.

which is not that bad for a specialist mag.

Seriously guys for a publication of this quality I think it's worth every euro.

I've never heard of or seen an issue of Movie Maker - as for small format (or its German sibling schmalfilm), I have been aware of it but always thought that it was a bit too professional and high-end for a hobbyist like me.

Perhaps I am wrong, though.

How about some examples of articles that appear in small format? As well as their intended audience? And I want to hear it from those of you who read the thing, please. [Smile]

Jan, look at the example pages on the web that are linked somewhere in another post above. This is a professionally produced magazine and there is nothing else like it today (for cine).

Jan, I'll spare you the comments about the quality. The magazine is indeed very well made. As far as content is concerned, it is *very* technical and most of the articles are about shooting film (writing, storyboarding, filming in 360°...), processing, etc. There's a ten-page article about the history of Super 8 (then again, mostly about cartridges, cameras and processing).
Being more into "playing cinema at home", I'm more interested in FFTC's content, but the two magazines put together cover both ends of the hobby.
Since Jurgen Lossau wrote the best reference book about projectors so far, I will continue to buy his magazine (at least for a few more issues), just to show my support of the format.

Jan, 10 euros gets you your very own copy. If you dont like it you dont have to have anymore. Yes it is probably more inclined to the taking side of the hobby but there are various interesting pieces which will keep you riveted for a while I'm sure.

OK, erm... it's been a few weeks since I ordered that first issue of small format via PayPal. Haven't received it yet. I'm actually not sure: is it being mailed to me within the USA, or is it coming from overseas? I feel silly not knowing whether I should be worried yet or not. [Confused]

Germany is the place!
Surface mail is the shipping method!
So, it can take up to 2 months to arrive!
You can ask for airmail I suppose, but then the price will be higher.
So, don't worry!
