I have had for a few years, a print of Abbott & Costello Africa Screams. I bought it used, and it was strong with vinegar smell. I ran it just the other night and the smell was not as bad, but the focus was soft throughout the print. It was nearly impossible to get it sharp.

Part of the problem might be my distance to screen. At 30 feet, it just so happens the ST1200HD's are at the minimum focus knob position. To remove the lens it would be turned to 3PM position and pulled out. Well this is the opposite, it's at 4pm position all the way installed. It is noted that, most other prints are nice and sharp as I would expect them to be.

Any comments?

It's starting to curl too much to maintain focus.

Reverse wind it and clean it with FilmGuard on the rewinds or reverse wind it and submerge with FilmRenew for a week (whichever cleaner you prefer). If you have both cleaners handy, you might want to do the submerge in FilmRenew for a week and then clean it with FilmGuard on the bench (yes in that specific order). Either will help relax the curl, but after a showing reverse wind it for storage to help "flatten out" the curling. Cleaning with FilmGuard will probably do better for the long term since it is an extremely slow drying lubricant. Just remember, there is no cure for Vinegar Syndrome, no matter what any salesman claims.

And please store that print in another room!!! If you don't, you will spread the disease to your other acetate prints. Cardboard box storage is generally the best way to go. Whatever you do, throw away any "cans" you may have.
