Is that really extra sound between the sprockets? Now I'm going to assume there are different machines with other kinds of exciter assemblies, and this soundtrack is mono, not stereo, and just a print with two copies of the same soundtrack?

This is very interesting. Had optical sound been more received to the format and had better quality as good if not better than magnetic, think of the possibilities and the lower costs without the mag stripe applied (if you only wanted to watch films and not record sound)?

Anyone? Comments?

Chip, Your spot on. That is another track on the sprocket hole side. This again was for the airlines and was a way of offering a second language track. Maybe English on the main track and Spanish on the second track. Again I think the only machines capable of playing these back were the units made for the Airlines. I have never seen this facility on any std Super 8 projector.

Yes, a few more of super 8's 'golden years' would undoubtedly have brought us commercial super 8 stereo optical sound projectors and film prints. Think of that - super 8 stereo sound heads that last forever!

Paul, this is very frustrating. I also sell another print, an excellent french comedy. Problem is (for me) that the main track is the English track and I'm pretty sure that the secondary track features the original French dialogues. It's not really cost effective to have the film striped with a mag track. I like the film but not to the point of spending a fortune , this is why I finally put it on ebay.
