I had read this before about spraying yout film gate with a pan coating, (like "Pam" , for instance), but before I spray ANYTHING in my projector, I would like to know exactly what to spray.

question is:

should it be a vegetable oil base, or somekind of silicon based spray?

Personally I would spray nothing in the projector gate, a lotof it could end up on the lamp or the lens, which would be real bad. The only way to wipe your gate is to spray onto a cotton swab and then wipe the gate with the swab. I have never used 'Pam' on my projector as my wife does all the cooking. [Big Grin]

But I wipe the gate, sound heads, and film path with 'Favour' furniture polish (on a swab)after every reel and this does a very good job.
Maybe this is an opportunity for one of us to write a new book- 'Cooking with the Elmo GS1200' [Big Grin]

Who needs spray when you can just crack an egg on top of the lamp cover and wait 5 minutes (note: requires projection with lamp on "high" setting) [Big Grin]

Osi, don't spray, wipe instead. Don't wipe Pam on your projector though. Clean the path with Film Renew or another chemical used for projector film paths.

I swab the projector gate (actually the entire film path) with a little bit of FilmGuard. That's of course after I've lubricated the print with marshmallow fluff. [Smile]

Personally I wouldnt use anything. The gate in the Elmo's are made from very hard metal which is shaped (dimpled) to allow a non friction surface to your films.

I just keep my gate as clean as I can get it especially the side runners.

I think that if you want to really go to the bother to further coat it then polish with a silicon base is probably the way to go.

BTW I can do two eggs and two slices of bacon on the top of my Xenon.
As for John Clancy he can cook a 3 course meal on the HTI conversion [Big Grin]
