hi there, after putting a new gate assembly into my sankyo800
i now have come across another problem.
the lower loop doesn't form correctly;that leads to the film
jumping in the gate.
does any other member know how to over come this?.
please help!i am at a loss on how to proceed.andy.

Hmmmmmmm.

Did you have a previous problem with your Sankyo 800 that you were attempting to fix by replacing the gate assembly? What did you replace exactly, how, and why?

Does pushing the thread/loop restore button do anything at all (with the film already threaded and running)?

hello jan,yes youre correct.i have had trouble with the 800s
gate before.i replaced the gate assembly because ALL films were
jumping in the gate.
the reason i replaced the whole thing is for that reason.
the plate;thats the one with the frame cut in it,for the light to pass;that was very loose indeed.
most films contiue to loose the lower loop
even after pressing the thread lever down.
the sankyo was checked last year by an expert who gave
it a clean bill of health, after checking the claw
cam etc.cheers andy.

I think Jan will agree that this sort of problem is caused by one of a few things. Insufficient Gate pressure, Insufficient Claw Protrusion or even an out of aligned gate assay with over or under pressure at the gate edges.

This is where you really need a service manual so all these points can be chaecked. I have heard that wear on the gate pressure plate can cause these porblems. Removal and a good polish may help.

Andrew, I had the same problem with my Sankyo 700. It was the gate pressure that needed adjustment. Over the years the pressure springs had become slightly week & required a little stretching.

I think Craig is probably spot on with that diagnosis so try that first. I use TCUT to remove any burrs or rough patches and then just buff that stuff up.

Andrew

When you say out of focus, do you mean the complete image or just one half of the screen?

If it is the latter, make sure the pressure plate is fitting flush with the gate. A little press with your finger may click it in to position.

OK Andy, look to make sure that the pressure plate is sitting flush. Try pressing the top & bottom of the plate it will probably click in to place.

Failing that, visually check that it is sitting evenly top & bottom.
