I was thinking about this late last night, concerning scope super 8. Was this a fairly new arrival in super 8mm. I'm thinking of the original heyday of Super 8mm, which ended around 1982 or 3.

There were a few about, cinevision prints, the Star Wars release ect. Ivers digests, but wasn't this mainly in the late 70's early 80's?

I believe you are right, Osi. I was collecting strong in the 70's, and the first time I heard of the scope format, was with the release of "AIRPORT", from U-8, around 1978. It seemed, at the time, that U-8 was releasing the scope version, as well as flat. It was with the "STAR WARS" digest that I first heard of the company 'Cinevision'.

Shortly after this, I would see the odd scope release in the U.K., like the "CAPRICORN ONE" promo, "SILVER DREAM RACER", etc.

Then, in the early 80's, there were several big feature releases from A/V Electronics in Germany and Steel Valley Films in the USA. Some of the titles were "WEST SIDE STORY" and "POLTERGIEST". At this point in time, scope was catching on with collectors, and was taken as a serious format, rather than a novelty. There were much less collectors by then (mid 80's), but a higher volume of collectors were now including scope in their hobby. Then Derann released some MAJOR scope features in the early 90's ("STAR WARS", etc.), and scope has become a regular part of the hobby since then.

You bring up a very good question from me. You mentioned Star Wars and "Cinevision" together. The only scope release back then that I heard of was the Star Wars part 2 scope from Ken films.

But then I also seem to remember someone saying that there was a "cinevision" release of Star Wars (digest, that is). Was there? If so, what was included on that cinevision digest?

I had the Cinevision Star Wars. Exactly the same cut as on the normal 'Scope reel. Just had the usual cineavision frame reduction.

Bloody awful print again though! Gave it to a friend after I recorded a stereo track on it.
