I note that Derann began in 1966, and didn't Super 8mm basically come out at the same time? Did Derann release standard 8mm as well?

They certainly did and their first release was a 200' version of 'Psycho', which was followed by full length Std 8 vesion. I've seen early promotional material (mainly hiring out but some sales too) and I think it was several years before they released anything on Super 8. There must be quite a few early Derann features that can only be found on Std 8, e.g. 'The Long Hair of Death' and 'Evil of Frankenstein'.

I saw one of those "Psycho" features on ebay! I thought it was a lie and so I didn'd bid on it. Dangit!

Not only did Derann issue standard 8mm films,they assured buffs commercial prints in standard 8mm would always outnumber ones in super 8mm! It's in the book(Movie Maker) somewhere......... [Wink]

I had one of those Standard 8 complete prints of Psycho...not bad , but the sound was off a few frames....but had a Mark S Eumig..so just enlarged the bottom loop a little bit.

Has Derann ever sold a silent film?

When I first found out about them all I had was a silent projector, and the huge number of sound titles they had is what got me to take the plunge and buy a sound machine.

There were quite a few Universal sound features available in Standard 8mm sound. THE INVISIBLE MAN and GHOST OF FRANKENSTEIN were also sold in complete versions.
