Having recently bought a large electrical screen with the idea of turning a spare bedroom into a cinema, I found that having been limited to where I could hang this screen, my projector stand wasn't tall enough to allow the projector to fill all the screen whilst level.
Anyway I looked through Ebay and bought a modern projector table with variable height control.
Unfortunately having just tried it I find that because it is only centrally supported, as opposed to being supported each end like the traditional cine or slide stand, it tends to tilt with the weight of my S940. Although I can get round this, i'm not entirely happy with the safety of the projector.
Is anyone aware if there were tradional stands made which were variable height somehow, or any that were particularly tall?

The stand I have used for more years than I care to remember is what you are looking for. It has a top tray 22" x 13" (with a hole in the middle to operate the blimp GB-Bell & Howell amp controls without opening the case lower flap). Four telescopic legs and a central platform measuring 30" x 20".

For carrying the four legs telescope into one another and are clamped between the two panels to give a package which sizes
30" x 20" x 5". It's very heavy and very sturdy. The legs have markings to ensure each can be set to the same length, but each leg can of course be individually adjusted on an uneven floor (and we've all met these!)

There is no name but it is obviously Gaumont and fits the description in a 1954 Wallace Heaton ad as follows:-

GAUMONT "BELMONT" HIGH LEVEL STAND - When erected the "Belmont" stand has an elevation of 52" which is ample to allow projection over the heads of the audience. In addition it is unusually robust and steady. The tray measuring 20" x 38" provides a convenient support for a gramophone player, films, etc., during the show. Provision is made for adjustment of height and levelling. Packs flat when not in use. £19 19s 0d.

I hope you can find one like it, you'll love it. It fits very easily in a car and doesn't take up too much room at home. Although from what you say it may remain in position in your set-up.
