I`ve had exerpaince of a two blade shutter very nicely done on an Elmo machine by our Kev F.

But I wondered what other machines it can be done on relatively easily. For instance there was a Bell and Howell( Sankyo range) with one fitted, on ebay uk recently.

What other makes have people come accross with them in, done them or had then put in etc, and is there anywhere you can buy them other than wittners for elmo,s.
ETC ETC ETC.
It srikes me there are loads of nice little 100 watt lamp machines here and there, and those fitted with a two blade shutter to my mind takes it up to 150 watt lamp status easily as not just the light but even the colours seem to pick up.So would be good for the longevity of the hobby in that sense.

Shame when Phil tried they didn`t adapt smaller elmos to the 150 lamp and put a two blade in with stereo line,s out. A refurshised one of those would have been a winner I think.

Good idea mark. I know that one machine that is difficult is the Elmo ST1200 because the shutter wheel is part of the drive mechanism and would require a lot of machining to make it correctly. I only have one machine currently with a 2-blade shutter but then again I have lots of home movies and need that 18fps flicker free picture. Another 2-blade machine would be nice if I get the time.

It all depends how easy it is to get to the shutter. Any machine which does not have the drive on the edge of the shutter wheel can in theory have a 2 blade shutter added instead of the std 3 blade but it also depends on how much stripping down had to be done to get to it.

Mark mailed me about the Yelco and having had a look at one I have in my garage I wouldn't want to do it to that machine as there is a lot to strip down before getting the shutter assembly out of the machine.

With the Elmo's (other than ST1200 series) you can remove the whole optical assembly as one unit which is why it makes it a very simple job.

http://www.ffr-film.de/index.php?page=elmo&language=de offers 2-bladed-shutters and variable shutters that fit into most Elmo-projectors. The shutter is not available as a spare part - you'll have to send in your projector to get it converted. However sometimes these shutters also show up on eBay...
