One of my Facebook friends (OnSuper8) found the following site offering translation for 'Schmallfilm' in English. As he rightfully notes,it's not the most correct translation (Babelfish),
but still better than nothing & I think should be interesting now that 'Smallformat' has ceased to exist. Thanks to him for finding it:

Yani, great inf! Two days ago I was looking at this page trying to find something about the Santorini super 8mm festival, and I could not understand a word! Now it is much better. It is too sad that the english version of the magazize stoped this year..... [Frown]

I always get a kick at how 'Bauer' translates as 'farmer.' It sounds better in the German!

I wonder if there are English words that work the same way. Like the way some 60s French movies sound so cool, until you speak the language and realize that they're little more than soap operas.

This must be the foreign appeal of Jerry Lewis or Arnold-- they play better if you don't speak English!
