and i was surprised about the quality sounds great
and the picture was pinsharp, can anyone explain me
how this coulld be.
It is an special edition number 20 and has two trailers,

You lucky, Jeroen!
My brand new copy was supplied without any trailer. I cannot understand the reason why my print, coming from Derann and supplied with a nice label saying 'ORIGINAL 1938 THEATRICAL TRAILER and THE 1994 TRAILER INCLUDED' did include none of them.
The same happened with PINOCCHIO [Eek!] ... No trailer at all.

A real mystery... Actually, if I well remember, your prints were both used. Mine were new. So the trailers have been simply cut off from the negatives and the movies are now supplied without them ............................................................

Pinocchio was brand new in seal Gian, only Snow White was second hand, but it looks like new not only one scratch, almost boring! [Wink] And two trailers also by the way on a mini reel. [Razz]

Sorry Jeroen [Wink] .
But I did not understand if the trailers (I'm referring to SNOW WHITE) were on reel # 1 or if they were supplied separately.
Anyway, once more, my copies were supplied without any trailer. But I'm really happy for you [Big Grin] .
Ciao.

I bought a new copy when it was released and
the two Snow White trailers were mounted on
one separate 200 foot reel and packed inside
the shrink wrapped box.

I think that Derann sold double trailer reel
separately?

I have that special edition of SWnow White with the two trailers.
I'm particularly fond of the original release trailer with the color footage of Disney himself, introducing the dwarves.

A beautiful releases, pin sharp and lovely colors.

I'm also lucky enough to own a third trailer for Snow White, buyt for the life of me, I don't know what year this particular trailer was released. It's a full 2 and a half minutes, and it doesn't say anything about "restored" in any way so I must expect that it is a pre-1990 or so release. The print is on low fade L.P.P. and the quality is top notch, very sharp.

Anybody know where this trailer came from? I mean, what year of release? It doesn't appear to be any older that the late seventies, judging by the graphic style.

I even attempted to look it up on the Snow White 2 disc DVD release, (as it has nearly all the re-release trailers), but it wasn't anyone of those.

Osi,

I wonder if my extra trailer is as yours?
It says: This Christmas from Walt Disney.
Snow White.
I think it begins with the Dwarfs inside the mine with
the gems?

How many excerpts did Disney release from Snow White? I have Whistle while you work which is great, but what were the other titles?

Posted by Gian Luca Mario Loncrini (Member # 1417) on October 04, 2009, 02:18 AM:

Hello Paul. Two existing excerpts:

- WHISTLE WHILE YOU WORK
- THE DWARFS' DILEMMA

 -

 -

THE DWARFS' DILEMMA was in early 80's supplied with a different artwork:

 -

Different stocks were used. The very last copies were distributed on LPP and quality is really great. Color, in this case and in my opinion, is quite better than Derann full feature.

Oh no Gian i have this 2 extracts, but the Derann feature is better then that much better,it's like Pinocchio for me the quality a mean [Big Grin]

Jeroen, as I wrote in my previous post, it depends on the stock used. Try to check which ones were used for the excerpts you have in your collection. I've had at least 5/6 copies printed on Eastman (very pink) and Kodak SP (slightly brown) which were not comparable to Deranns, of course.

But trust me: I own an excerpt by Walt Disney Home Movies (THE DWARFS' DILEMMA) printed on LPP and color is definitely better than Derann full feature. I will post some shots as soon as possible [Wink] .

Consider, of course, this is just my opinion. But, about Deranns, you should know that color quality of a print is not always the same. I've had two copies of MICKEY'S CHRISTMAS CAROL, just to make an example. One was really bluish. The one I actually have is stunning. And the same happened with some trailers that I have promptly substituted.

I must admit I am one of those who complained about color quality of Derann full edition of SNOW WHITE. But it could be simply a case. Maybe I'm the only one! Anybody else who has a copy of this movie not so excellent in color? Just a little curious, now... My copy was printed and supplied before summertime this year. And I have to say it's a little on the pink side. So unusual, I know, because it's a Derann, but it's true!

Micheal ...

Yes, my extra trailer is the same as yours. Do you know what re-issue it was perhaps?

Gian, I believe the difference in the color of the two "MIckey's Christmas Carol" would be because of the two major film stocks that Derann uses or has used ...

L.P.P. and Agfa

I have found that Derann's Agfa prints are far superior (in general) to the Derann L.P.P. prints which have, as you have stated Gian, a bluish cast to the color.

I have noted this with all of Derann's agfa/L.P.P. prints and, when possible, always ask the seller (Derann included, if it is on they're used list), which of the two film stocks it is.

Though both of them are very sharp and beautiful, always go for the Agfa stock, which I have always found to be superior. Please note that this is my own opinion.

If you still have both "Christmas Carols", please inspect the two prints and report back as to whether the better color print is Agfa.

I have two different trailers on super 8 for this feature. One is from JEF Films, the other I think Derann. I also have the full feature but do not know who released it.

One Snow White short I have is black and white, behind the scenes production of this movie in the works. It includes Walt himself, talking about it. And it includes a production number pencil sketch and full drawing that was cut from the film.

The title of this short is called THE SOUP SONG.

I really don't know how rare it is, but I like mine.

Of course, I add to my feature the shorts CLEAN PASTURES with COAL BLACK. LOL Ain't I a killer....... [Big Grin]

Chip, I think Derann still sell 'The soup song' new.

I confirm Derann still sell THE SOUP SONG.
Osi, thanks for all info.

Well, maybe this is the right time. I will let you know, my dear friend.

Long long ago back in the 70s [Roll Eyes] I bought a used print of the "The Dwarfs Dilemma" top photo, the richness of the colour plus it was a really sharp and steady print I would say it was probably one of the best extracts ever " American print" and I doubt even Blu-ray when it comes could look better [Wink] I do have a copy of the same extract "English print" and its not as good [Frown] regarding "Whistle While You Work" although as with all American Disney prints in those days "all good" that original "Dwarfs Dilemma" was exceptional and I still have it... better screen soon as its been a while [Roll Eyes] I do have "Snow White" Derann feature and I am very happy with it. [Smile]

Graham.

PS Just screened both "Whistle While You Work" and "The Dwarfs Dilemma" both on one 400ft reel, unfortunate the first film "Whistle" is a bit faded however "The Dwarfs Dilemma" although a little bit warm in colour still looks good, not bad for a 30year old print. I think it will outlast the projector and..me.. [Wink]

Some shots from my copy of THE DWARFS' DILEMMA by Walt Disney Home Movies. Color is definitely better than Derann full feature I recently bought.
