A few months ago I bought enter the dragon on 4x400'(ufa)
unfortunately the editing is very bad [Mad] and a few weeks
before I had seen the same title on 3x400'(columbia pictures
home entertainment).Does anyone know if this version is worth
buying? [Wink]

Daniel,

I have the 400' Warner Bros. digest (released through Columbia) of "Enter The Dragon", which is a very good edit job. I also have the 4x400' UFA, which I have to re-record into English. I've never seen a 3X400' version. My Warners print still has great color.

Dear Doug,
thanks for your reply,I also have the 400' digest which is very good indeed. The 3x400'came with the same box
as the digest, but it seems to be a very rare item. That leads me to wonder if columbia pictures home entertainment have released other 3x400'.

Doug,
I have another Bruce Lee film from UFA ("First of Fury"). They were on AGFA stock so blue is blue, green is green and red is red, as you know is AGFA.

My experience with Warner they are always on Kodak SP, so although they are good, but it is noticeable to be warmer side.

Is your Bruce Lee UFA also on AGFA? if yes, Because you have the same title from different company, which one is seen warmer from the other one?

thanks

Daniel,

Columbia Home Entertainment released 3x400' versions of "Superman" and "The Exorcist". The only 2x400' I recall is "Confessions of a Driving Instructor". "7th Voyage of Sinbad", "Golden Voyage of Sinbad" and "Jason and the Argonauts" were 4x200'.

Winbert,

Both my UFA and Warner "Dragons" are on Kodak SP. While the UFA colors are muted and warm, the Warner print is vibrant and more to the blue side. I'll try to post screen shots later in the week.

Didn't Columbia release a two-parter of "Emmanuelle"?

Indeed they did entitled EMMANUELLE & MORE FROM EMMANUELLE.

These releases were very popular at the time and went thru several print runs, the last being in the big columbia plastic clamshell case version.

There is a bit of duplicate footage in part 1 & 2 so a little editing is required.

Columbia also released a feature length print too!!

When I visited Umit's shop in London a few months ago he had the three reel Enter The Dragon behind the counter as one of his prized possessions. Since I could care less about any kind of martial arts film, I sensed he couldn't understand why I wasn't drooling over it... to each his own I guess. All three boxes had the same cover art - just like Columbia's Exorcist three reeler.

Unlike the other multi-part releases, Columbia originally didn't plan on a second "Emanuelle". It sold so well, they had to!

Very strange. Warners had a 400 feet digest plus a 3 x 400 feet version. But my ENTER THE DRAGON from Warner is 4 x 400 feet in boxes with identical artwork.
Why would they release both a three and a four parter ?
Print is dated on the tails as February '81.

I have a special fondness for the clamshells and artwork of those Warner/Columbia releases since my first ever purchase was the 400 feet digest of THE EXORCIST. Still scary and colours still reasonably OK.

Should anyone want to part with his 3x400 Exorcist or Superman please let me know.

A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away I was offered:

"Enter the Dragon" Super 8mm Full length Feature, Scope
"Return of the Dragon" Super 8mm Full Length Feature Scope
"Game of Death" Super 8mm Full Frame Abridged Feature.
I got the "Game of Death" and that one has still great color.
Had I know how rare the first 2 were I would of snapped them up but alas...I didn't. Still looking for those.

Back in the 'days', I did a review of this and gave it a very bad one. I remember distinctly there was only a 400' and a 4x400'. The 4x400' had repeat scenes for some stupid reason if I remember. Some years later at a video store a young man recognized my name and asked if I was the same person who used to sell super 8mm films and he remembered my review and later saw the 4x400' version and he agreed with me and thanked me for the review. Possibly someone took out the repeated scenes and made it a 3x400'.
