Hi all,

I have just received a 8mm film "Walt Disney Christmas" which is certainly not a Blackhawk release. But having seen the side label, it does look like those labels we always found on Blackhwak release.

So who did this label? who was the distributor for this film?

and the most important question, to what point those numbers refer to?

Blackhawk distributed these, as well as many of the Ken, Columbia and Castle films, all with the familiar coded label - I have some like that

The first three digits of that number in the lower left tell you a lot. I'm used to seeing these in the 810-880 range for 8mm and S8 Blackhawks. That "785" must be one of the codes for externally produced films. (Suppose there must have been similar codes for 16mm too...)

I bet "LOC3007" is a warehouse code that a long time ago referred to a specific shelf in the Davenport facility (What I'd give to be able to take a stroll through that!), so they'd be able to pick inventory to fill orders easily and also store new films for sale.

It's amazing what you can still learn about this stuff after all these years.

I have one or two photographs given me by a collector some years back, showing the very shelves and a girl going through them, at Blackhawk - On his visit he said there were six or seven rows like that - Incredible - Yes, LOCO was for location, I learned much from the labels and inquiring to great friends like David Shepard who was kind enough to decipher many of my questions on the codes, etc - Shorty

The last 4 digits can be very valuable information to have as well -- they helped me complete by restored Chaplin Mutual collection -- these all were 25xx. Of course, someone could have swapped boxes -- but that never happened to me.
