When I was 13 years, I remember ,that I saw in fotoshops this wunderful new boxes from marketing films. I could not afford them, because for a young boy with 2 DM a week were 149 DM for a film unreachable. The year was 1973 and Super 8mm in sound and color was new in germany. So I dreamed to get them all. Well it tooks a long time to get them later in the nineties, but the love to this beautiful boxes was still the same. The marketing releases from 1973 and 1974 where all distributed in cinema from constantin Film. The good movies from this german distributor where only availible by marketing films in this two years. And so are the movies from the early marketing period
still very important to me. Of course ,some of the titles are for the collectors from England and the USA not so interesting, because they where geman comedys and sex films, like "Morgends um sieben ist die Welt noch in Ordnung" or "Hurrah, die Schule brennt" or "Schulmädchenreport 1.Teil".
But one of my most favorite Super 8 digests is still "U 2000",that is known in the USA as atragon,a japanese Science fiction film from 1963. Or the third of the Dr Fu Man Chu films "Die Rache des Dr.Fu Man Chu" with Christopher Lee from 1966. A very good film is of course "Der Hexenjäger" from ca 1968, which you know as the witchfinder general with Vincent Price. And interesting is the best of the four spain horror movies about a group of sceleton ghosts , riding on sceleton horses. German Title was "Die Rückkehr der reitenden Leichen"with Tony Kendal and Fernando Sancho. Tony Kendal plays together with Brad Harris in the Komissar x series. One of this crime and spy series was released by marketing films, too.German title"Komissar X - 3 goldene Schlangen" In germany where very popular during the sixties the Edgar Wallace films. One of the best films was "Der Hexer" from 1964,shot in black and white.
And let us not forget the very first Django film with Franco Nero from 1966. Plus "Für eine Handvoll Dollar" well known in the USA as for a fistful of dollars from Sergio Leone.
All this titles are interesting to collect, special because they still exist in good colors. With luck you can get them without any fading, bud do not forget, all this color films where avaiable in black and white ,too. So.for this time it is enough, later I will describe the content of the Digests better and will try to make some screen shots.
Many greetings from germany
Andreas

Andreas Chmielewski's amazing photo distracted me from thanking Andreas Borutta for all the great information on early 1970s Marketing films. I never knew Atragon had a 8mm release.

I always love Marketing Films in terms of packaging.

They used a very sturdy box and excellent graphic (contrast with Ken or Columbia which were all on easy-to-break-cardboard).

@ Andreas C, do you have "the Final Countdown" ? (the last Marketing Films three parter, which were not released in English version)

And also what about "Island Dr Moreau", does it have good colour or faded?

regards,

ps: if you follow the other Forum, Andreas C's collection is not only those above blue boxes but also hundreds of Italian prints, all full feature!! [Wink]

Hello Andreas C
Nice to see, that I am not the only collector here in Germany who loves the old Marketing covers. You have really the biggest collection of this prints, but all the early releases are almost unknown in the rest of the world. Do you know, that they released U 2000 = Atragon in both, letterbox and full frame ?
I prever the full frame version,so you can pack them good together with U 4000 = Latitude Zero ,the two parter fro Ufa atb. My biggest love belongs more the 35 mm format. I love my collection of 2800 Trailers from the last 60 years.
Greetings from Gelsenkirchen
