Has anyone here from USA had problems getting their films from UK? I have 3 ebay purchases and 2 from repituble sellers (non ebay) in UK that have been lost! Items that were purchased back in December have never been delivered. Aparanetly, there is a problem with their less expensive (no tracking or sig.) airmail service. I was just wondering if anybody else had the same problem?

Thanks

I have been pretty lucky. The only item that was ever lost was a package from Derann with "Little Shop of Horrors" Optical Feature. It made it to the states but UPS lost it from the hub to my place!
Everything else has made it no problem.
I hope you get your films!

Pat,

I've noticed extreme delays on items shipped from the UK, but they've eventually arrived. I am currently waiting for a few purchases that seem overdue, however I'm still hopeful.

I'm not sure if this is the problem, but I think that after some point around November - December, the measures of USA customs got stricter, so there are huge delays for packages, especially not priority or registered ones....

The same goes the other way around, I've noticed great delays is cheaper packages from the US to Europe.

New Year and we had around 20,000 parcels locally backed up due to the severe weather disruption and all were in storage we were told. I should think by now they would be just about getting back on track, thankfully non of my business parcels went adrift either local or international. Phew.

No problems for me either and I have sent feature films to USA, Italy, Greece, Germany and Iceland in the last 2 months [Smile]

Good luck.

Thanks for all your replies. Fact is I have items that date back to December 4th 2010 that have still not arrived. I'm thinkimg that taking all into consideration, 4-6 weeks should be a fair amount of time to get here. Some as much as 9 weeks to date and still nothing.Just makes one a little concerned.

Hi,

as I haven't found a similar information for "UK -> USA":
http://www.dhl.de/de/paket/privatkunden/international/laenderseiten/vereinigte-staaten-von-amerika.html
claims that a small parcel without any express option takes up to 30 days from Germany to reach its addressee in the USA. However these "days" are "working days". So December 4th would still be within these 30 days (due to Christmas, NewYear and other public holidays).

However it looks like the winter and homeland security are causing some delays:

I have been waiting for something I won on Ebay in mid December that still hasn't arrived. I had given up hope but maybe it's weather related - reading this thread has made me relax about it. The seller seems legit so I will just have to be patient.

That was the reason I started the topic Brian. I figured I couldn't be the only one. Sharing the info lets us all know what is going on. Thats what makes this forum so great.

I just recevied a packet from Derann UK. It was sent on Jan 28 and arrrived today (7 days). It uses a cheap rate postage (non UPS, no tracking).

So, do you think weather reason is still valid..... [Confused]

cheers,

The only problem I've ever had with delays was when ash was a problem, and planes couldn't fly for a number of days. The packages eventually made it, but still wasn't unreasonable for Royal Mail/Small Packets. Outside of this, I've never had a problem, and I've probably had 20-30 packages arrive in the past year. Now, as soon as I add this reply, something will happen, so now knocking on wood, saying a prayer, etc.

Here's an interesting example: Three packages were shipped to me from the UK on December 16th. I received one of the three a month later on January 16th. The remaining two arrived yesterday, February 5th. I don't care about the wait, I'm just glad they got here.

I have 1 shipped Dec 4th 2010 still not received, another Dec 10th still not received. The next three were sent Jan 4 2011 still nothing. All from UK. Three were from top ebay sellers I have dealt with before. The later 2 from very reputible UK sellers. And, as you say , it's the films you want. I never had this problem buying from UK before. That's taking into consideration snow, ash and any other act of nature you can think of. Now, on the plus side, I ordered felt pads for the film cleaner I got from Jim. They can in 10 days! Go figure. Anything bigger than a small envelope and you got a problem.

I don't know is this could help, but when I recent sended to Gerald Santana some films, they told me on the post office that it will take minimum one month, due to new politics on the USA and the air security. This new politics have started December 9th, so...

I just received the January 10th shipment from Derann. I'm sure the earlier order from January 4th (it was larger) will arrive soon.

Pat,
Any luck?

Depending on what part of UK you buy from, I have waited 2 weeks (normal) up to 7 weeks for films. I finally did get all the films I bought. There must be something up with Post from certain parts of UK. At least, now I know what to expect!

My shipment from England sent Dec. 9th just arrived. It's the 800' Walton digest of Black Beauty. Hope it was worth the wait!

Hi Steve tread carefully as this can be on OK Agfa or Some of the better Fuji stock, but just as easily be on fading Fuji and very fading Eastman. All acetate.

Its a bit of a crap shoot, also no idea on lines or sound etc.

I would at least ask the chap to look near the sprocket holes for the small written eastman fuji or agfa Agaf or Fuji 80 is your best bet.

It looks as if its the 400 x 2.

Best Mark.
