Hi is anyone going to Cinevent next month in Columbus? I've never been. Are the prices for films at this type of event similar to buying here and on Ebay, or do they get jacked up? I'm really looking to track down some prints and wondering if I need to start saving now, lol.

It's a great show, true meeting area for the collector and tradesman alike - Prices commensurate and negotiable as necessary

I used to attend every year (until I moved out west), and thoroughly enjoyed the show. I usually only attended for a morning (as I didn't attend the films shows) -- I found that spending a half a day was just enough (before I started spending too much money!).

films at conventions are almost always more reasonable...and you can trade in person and negotiate .....cinevent is a tremendous show.....just great.

How does it compare film-wise to the Cinefest? I know here in Los Angeles we have cinecon every year, which SHOULD be the motherload since it was started by Sam Rubin and all the old collectors, but you are lucky if you can find 1 small Blackhawk film priced as if it is the last one on Earth...My only complaint, which again is not the fault of the organizers who do a great job, it is just the dealers apparently don't want to come to Hollywood....I guess the Roddy McDowell, and other raid-type issues make people afraid to bring films into the belly of the beast?

Google 'cinevent columbus 2011', the entire page is there with contact information, screenings and all else - Like CINEFEST, Films are priced accordingly, rarer Blackhawks are about the same, depending on the dealer and collector talking - It is true that the finest Blackhawk prints, wether 16mm or 8mm do command a premium - They simply are not manufactured anymore, what we have is what we have - Searching for the best print and title can get costly, though not overly-so, as say a 35mm Sunshine print as example - CINEFEST, CINEVENT & CINECON are the greatest shows we have in this county - The first two I have frequented and truly contain the finest people and films around, I have yet to experience CINECON, but prior commitments in theatre and such have prevented it - I urge everyone who can attend these shows, please do, you will not be disappointed - Good food, good company, hey Shorty's there too, it's always a party - For my Super 8mm/Std 8mm fellow-collectors, bring films - Stay with it, Shorty

I am planning on going. I have gone the last few years. Lots of 16mm and tons of lobby cards and posters and film related books and mags. Last year there was also a good selection of 8mm too. And in addition to Richard's table there is some equipment to be had. And of course VHS/DVD/laserdisc's too.

And they also screen films during the whole weekend. It is really a very fun day and for me it's only a 2 hour drive. This fall I hope to go to John Black's show. That's about a 9-10 hour drive. [Frown]
