I wish I could answer that fully, but here's what I know ...

I once had a Thunderbird (or was it Niles?) print of this, and it was on 4X400ft with the ending on a 200ft reel. However, I found that the full film would fit on 4X400ft, but every reel literally filled to the very brim, and that would make a cool 82 minutes.

Unfortunately, every print of this film that I have run into on Super 8 has had decent grain, but terribly hsrd to focus. Not a grand print. Anybody have a decent printing of this?

Luis....I have 2 prints of 'The 39 Steps'

One is "Thunderbird" and the other "Niles" Both are 5 reels (400') and are uncut. Maybe you are missing a reel? The "Thunderbird" print has good contrast but has some lines and the "Niles" print is perfect but a bit washed out. So I've decided to keep them both for now.

Hope that helps, Bill [Smile]

By the way, the late 70's British remake of this classic can be found on optical sound super 8. I know as I have a prinbt of it, and it has lovely color and is extremely sharp. It stars Robert Powelkl and David Warner.

Of course, it was compared to the original classic, but I personally thinbk it stands alone and is my personal pick as the better version.

No dishonor to Hitchcock, of course.

Luis,

81 minutes is the correct running time, as referenced theatrical listings.

The only difference was at 86 minutes and on the back of VHS video tape box.
