hello all,
i'm new here and new to 8mm, and i'm hoping someone here could get me started.
here's the deal:
recently i moved into a verry wet verry old country home and i found in the attic a eumig s932, and then almost at the same time a friend of mine left me a noris synchromat ts which he bought at a garage sale and afterwards judged to heavy to take home.
I always liked film (i had a little daylight viewer when i was sixteen on which i watched a home movie of unkown people over and over again). So i was quite a happy camper,

now..
i got some films, i got the owners manuals for both machines, but eventhough the lamps work and they make a lot of noise, neither machine seems to have a functioning film transport system...
so where do i go from here?
i fixed amplifiers and did other small electronic jobs before, so i got some knowledge, but every new machine is always a bit of a mystery.

are there some steps to verify what my problem is?
are there service manuals avalible for these machines?
any suggestion is welcome

thanks in advance
willem

Hi & Welcome,

most of the projectors are using rubber-belts to advance the film (with the belts transmitting the motor's movements to the reel-holders). Unfortunately the used rubber tends to deteriorate after a few decades. So you'll most likely have to replace the belts. As you seem to be located in France, you should try http://www.super8-cine.fr/index.php?pg=produits&prod=Courroies+Projecteur . You can find some service manuals as PDF for free on the web, e.g. here: http://www.super8-projektor.de/index.php?site=technik&kategorie=7 . When you can't find them on the net (with google), you can buy (re)printed versions, e.g. here: http://www.oldtimercameras.com/stock/Model.asp?Model=3660&ModelPage=true

So, a day further and i know some more.
I'm in luck, no rubber belts need replacing, actually my problem was that i was not pushing the feed button down far enough... Duh..

i actually got the film to thread on the eumig s 932, which gave me hope
but that doesn't save me yet, because the film keeps comming out under the lens
and the solutions proposed for this in the manual didn't help...
any suggestions on how to go on from here

thanks for the reply and the help so far

Hi,

not sure about your Eumig, but on my Bauer this usually has got one of these three causes:
a) The film-leader isn't cut "correctly" and hence gets stuck.
b) After cleaning the projector, I forgot to set the pressure plate (at the lens) back from "swung out for cleaning" to "normal position". Hence it doesn't apply enough pressure onto the film which causes the film to search for new ways...
c) There's "something" stuck at the pressure plate or in the film path. ("Something" = remnants of films that got stuck in one of the previous runs, most likely some splicing tape (similar to Scotch tape) or a few centimetres of film.)

Another idea: It looks like your Eumig has got one central knob to choose between "stop", "threading", "projection", "rewind", ... . Maybe you accidentally set that knob to "projection" instead of "threading" while threading?
