I should get a few spare efr lamps for my st1200hd elmo. Prices range from 6 to 60 dollars. Should I buy 10 of the 6.00 or one 60.00? Why the great range in price? Is there really that much difference in quality between brands? Suggestions as to brand. Thanks again for the help.

I found back a few years ago when I went into a photo shop and asked for a projection lamp, it was if I was asking them to find me the Ark of the Covenant and the prices were proportionate, but when you go to an internet vendor that has them in stock by the dozen the prices drop into line.

I get my lamps from this seller:

Replacement Light Bulbs

I get three bulbs for what I've often paid for one, so I can buy several at a time and have a reserve. I recommend them because they've always been decent service wise. Let's face it: everybody is selling the same bulbs so it's not a product thing.

I buy the Osrams because of their reputations, but the difference isn't astounding. All of these are made to a standard, so they should actually behave a lot alike anyway.

So don't spend $60 for one, or buy 10 at 6 bucks. Get a few of a reputable brand at a good price and you'll do fine.

I think only two reputable manufactures that still making EFR and EFP lamp, i.e Osrams and Phillips.

Only buy from these two brands. I don't know if Sylvania is still making but this is a good brand too.

There are other obscure brands but mostly are cheapy products used for DJ lighting.

As for the prices for these two brands will be around $6-$10 depends on the quantity.
Cheers

Bruce-

Have you ever done business with Steve Osborne before? He is the publisher of "The Reel Image" magazine, and sells bulbs and other supplies for a very good price. A great businessman as well, and very efficient.

James.

Thanks for the information. After today's film buying spree I may not be able to afford the 6.70 for the lamp. But I did pick up five films. Aw- it's only money.
