REVENGE OF FRANKENSTEIN 5x400'

Sold by Derann but being a German print does this count?

in reply Ricky,I felt it wouldn't be correct to include other firms
releases as Deranns, I could have mentioned "Dracula has Risen
From the Grave"but this again was a German release.I purposely
didn't include "Taste The Blood of Dracula" as this was an import.
I would have done if Derek had had the titles redone to English
but as they are foreign language it proves its someone elses
release.Although with "Taste the Blood"I think this was a US,.
probably KEN Films import.I have a copy but I remember when
It was for sale there weren't that many avaiable and he also had
at that time limited numbers of "One Mllion Years BC" which no
doubt were a job lot bought in.

I believe Evil was only Regular 8. If it's true there were color prints I would love to find one... I've only seen the black and white version. Just adding to the above list. The Countess Dracula digest was released in color - briefly, until there was a color issue so they just went with black and white.
I think Devils of Darkness was Derann not Powell. Also, Hands of the Ripper was released as a 400' digest as well.

I don't know where the Taste the Blood digest came from. The titles were English ... but I can't imagine it was done here in America.

Also, Revenge of Frankenstein German/Derann release is 5 X 400' reels.

Hi Brian, yes "Evil of Frankenstein" was one of Deranns early
releases for hire only in colour as their were only four prints made
om reversal stock,so no fade.Prints were done in b/w of which I
have one 5x400 also a 50' trailer of which I also have and again
reversal stock & excellent colour.Countess Dracula I fear was first released as b/w as a digest would be because the colour was very
poor on the feature release being very dupey.Regarding the other
film "Devils of Dakness" I think you'll find that it was released by
Tony Powell I refer to "Movie Maker"April 1979 page 260 and
the ad for Powell Films. As for "Taste the Blood" this release was
not put out by Derann,Iremember it mentioned in the newsletter at the time saying it and "Years BC" were imports
from the USA.The dead giveaway is there is no DFS logo and the
editing & colour were better than any shorts Derann were doing
at the time, albeit a tad dark.

Good thread! As a Hammer fan who started collecting in 1981 primarily to buy Hammer films, I can offer a few additions and comments.

DRACULA PRINCE OF DARKNESS: In fact the 4x400 version was full frame but the flat 1x400 was masked. There was also the 1x400 scope version.
QUATERMASS EXPERIMENT: I'm not absolutely 100% certain but I thought the STD 8 version was full length (5x400)
SCARS OF DRACULA: A very small point but the full length Super 8 version was 4x600 rather than 5X400.
THE REVENGE OF FRANKENSTEIN and DRACULA HAS RISEN FROM THE GRAVE: It's a matter of opinion but I'd be inclined to class them as Derann releases because although they were initially released in Germany, Derann later bought the negatives and produced the English sound versions.
TASTE THE BLOOD OF DRACULA 1x400: Although referred to as an import (which explains the lack of a DFS logo at the start), this was definitely a Derann release first printed by Buck Labs. Derann even produced a box label for a later batch of prints. In a 1980s film collecting publication, a well-known gentleman in the UK collecting scene referred to the production of the opening title and mentioned that he was responsible for the editing!
DICK BARTON STRIKES BACK: 4x400 STD 8
DR JEKYLL AND SISTER HYDE: 4x600 S/8
HANDS OF THE RIPPER: In addition to the Powell releases mentioned, Derann released a full length 3x600 version. I have a print but it wasn't available for very long. They seemed to have problem getting good results from the negative and I had to return two copies that had one or two problem reels.
WOMEN WITHOUT MEN: 4x400 S/8 I have a print of this rarity which isn't in the original boxes and does not indicate the distributor. If no one can confirm that it's from another distributor, it may well be a Derann release.
UNRELEASED Hammer films: to be comprehensive, I'll add that there are Derann catalogues that announced the future release of MEN OF SHERWOOD FOREST 4x400 S/8 and FRAKENSTEIN MUST BE DESTROYED full length S/8. Sadly the latter never appeared and I've never come across any evidence of the former, although I have a 16mm print of the film that used to be in the Derann 16mm library.

Hi Adrian nice to hear from you and your comments have been noted."Dracula,Prince of Darkness" was done slightly masked
and not full frame,"Quatermass Experiment" was 4x400 std 8
on full spools and of course full length as you rightly say.
As for not including the two German releases I think this is only
fair as they weren't originally Deranns releases even though they re-recorded them and got the negs they were still someone elses films.I remember the effort to obtain new Titles for "Goldfinger",Derek didn't do that for these films ,that would be like giving them credit for"El Cid"& "Roman Empire"which
were Lone Wolfs originally.I could have inc."Dick Barton Special
Agent" & "Dick barton at Bay" but it was the Sci-fi horror titles
that I was trying to collate.Regarding your explanation behind
"Taste" I feel you are right,Mr Simmonds was the King of the
white box special, but I'm just going on the explanation given
on their Newsletter reg. imports.Adrian, you and I and I'm sure
scores of collectors are saddened that the release of Hammers
"Frankenstein Must Be Destroyed" didn't happen but I suppose
we can't have everything.Just before I depart how many of our
members can remember the 400 std8 release "Night Devils"
I'd forgotten all about it, until while trawling my vaults there it
was forlorn and forgotten.Well take care and keep on truckin'
whatever the hell that means.
