Hi, I wonder who might have experience in running this Eumig with a 50watt bulb, rather than the standard 100watt/12 volt bulb?
This and the Eumig 802D are running well and ready to transfer some vintage footage to camcorder via a simple mirrored cam-link. The problem I've got is the brightness of the projection simply over-exposes the picture, and no matter what i do with the white balance of the camcorder, it seems to make no difference. If anyone has tried a lower wattage bulb in either projector with successful results, i'd be very grateful to hear.
I assume this wouldn't cause the projector a problem?

Hi Ron,
In my experience, you will need to drop to a lower wattage than that, a 35w, or even a 20w. I have used both for long periods with no ill effects. If you can squeeze a diffuser in somewhere between the light source and the gate, your 50 watt would then probably do nicely. Also, for what it's worth, while not as good as filming from the gate of the projector, filming from a sheet of white A4 paper on the wall will probably give better results than the cam link, and your 50w bulb would then be more suitable.

Ron if it is uses the usual halogen bulb (bowl type), the 50w 12v is available in any dollar store for merely a dollar. You don't need to order it which will cost you another dollars for shipping cost.

Just my 2 cents (to save more money)

Likewise the 20 watt (I'm using one with a double layer of A4 copy paper as a diffuser in my "Direct from Film" machine).

Your welcome!, but I just realized that you live in the UK. I don;t know if a kind of dollar store is available (or obviously would be poundsterling store [Big Grin]

). But in the Northern America there are a lot of kind these stores where everything your daily needs are available for incredibly low prices.

Thanks so much for those solid tips!! I've now transferred the footage, recording from a white card screen, rather than using the camlink due to it's poor quality.

It seems that getting a 12 volt bulb in 50, 35 and 20 watt sizes is no problem, and prices are fair, but if you have a projector needing a 6.35mm 2 pin base rather than a 5.3mm base, the market only offer single bulbs without the reflector, so mounting it in the lamp house is not snug and there is no natural clip to hold it in place.
I wonder if anyone knows of a UK source of bulbs 50 or lower watt 12 volt bulbs, with GX 6.35 rather than GX 5.3, that have a reflector? I couldn't find any, but would imagine they could be available.

As to the results of the transfer, I couldn't be happier and really appreciated your help on the forum guys! The next beer is on me!! [Smile]

Hi Martin, thank you for that link, though the page doesn't confirm the pin distance on the base of the bulbs. I'd found a similar supplier and bought a one-off, only to find it too was a 5.3mm.
I'm awaiting a reply from the supplier to confirm.
Have you bought this item from them before?

Valid point, Ron. However, I find that both 5.3 and 6.35 bulbs will fit with a little CAREFUL persuasion into the same Eumig socket.You do not need to distort the pins.. the socket accommodates them.
BUT, the EUMIG sockets are notoriously frail so I change any I come across for ceramic ones (used in many domestic down-lighters, kitchen plinth lights etc) which will accept either size happily, being much more durable. Usually they come with heat-resistant leads. I don't have a specific source for them as spares; I picked up a few from a kitchen that was being scrapped.
