Does anybody have a blackhawk catalog? I am wondering if they released this title from laurel and hardy i've never seen it offered on fleabay.

I have a nice blackhawk copy of pack up your troubles on Super 8mm
with sound. It's mounted on two metal 800Ft reels with the can. It's all complete with the head & tails. Were you looking to purchase this film?

Please keep in mind that the Blackhawk version of PACK UP YOUR TROUBLES is slightly edited. Their source was the Films Classics re-issue from the '40s where the edits were made. Removed are the domestic violence scenes with Richard Cramer. This edit makes the boys look a bit harsh when they come to take the little girl away. In the original version, they look like heroes and you want to applaud. Also cut is the beginning of the scene where the little girl winds up reading Stan to sleep with a story. I have heard that the Walton copy contains at least some of the Blackhawk deleted material, though their version is also abridged.

I can't tell you what a damper that put on my wanting to seek out a print. I always trusted BH to utilize the best resource material available especially when it came to the Roach canon. To discover that PUYT is edited (Arrrrggggg!). I know BH wasn't the only source of Roach titles out there, but unless one is willing to shell out the big bucks (pounds) for 16mm it won't be easy finding a decent S8S print that's complete. Now I have to go back and watch the copy I have on DVD and my VHS copy from Nostalgia Merchant to see if they are, in fact, complete and unexpurgated.

The Nostalgia Merchant VHS is probably edited, though I'm not 100% sure. If your DVD is from the set that just came out late last year in the U.S., it is probably complete. I first saw the "new" scenes on the L&H Show in the late 80's, but that version had other edits. AMC cable in the '90s showed the complete version -- and TCM probably showed the complete version a couple of years ago as well. Most non-BH 16mm copies will also be from the Film Classics negative. I guess there might be reductions that are complete, or a rare UK copy in 16mm. I am not sure if the version offered up until circa 2007 by Film Preservation Associates (the "new Blackhawk") in 16mm was complete or not. You have to remember that these edits were made in the original negatives when they were sold by Roach to Film Classics in the '40s, so we are lucky to have them at all now in any format.
