I was just wondering, bought a "crappy" Elmo lens on eBay, had some marks on the inside. How to dismantle and clean the lens? Is it screwed on, glued on (ie not possible to open) or what?

And what do you clean it with?

Hi Vidar,
There is no glue if its the 1.1/1.2/1.4/1.0 lens. You just need a Lens Spammer tool. It will allow you to remove the rings that hold the lens in place.
Then you can clean using Cold Cream. That's what I used when I had to clean a Schneider Lens. For the Elmo lens I just used warm water and soap and it removed the fog.
Now if its the 1.3 lens..I believe you cannot take those apart. They are glued in. Maybe you should get a 1.1? Hint hint..I have one for sale? [Smile]

I bought ELMO Zoom Lens Super F:1.1 f/1.1 12,5 - 25mm for about 20 dollars and it did say it had problems. Just thought it was cheap and might be salvaged :-/

I am fairly sure I can't get anything to open the lens with here in Norway, so next question ... Are they available for sale?

How much you want for your lens? And it will fit a ST-1200D MO?

Hi Joe,
I got this spammer from Sk Grimes. They are the same company that was able to shave down the 1.0 Ektar Lens so it would fit in the Eumig 938/940. They do great work and they also make a great product. While it is a little more expensive than the ones on Ebay I know that I wont be buying another one anytime soon. I got the pair.

I’ve used two small flat screwdrivers and drilled two small holes to the required diameter in a bit of wood pushing them through the holes with a tight fit before now. Screwdriver set £1 from a pound shop. Sounds a bit Heath Robinson but it enabled me to dismantle a lens OK and clean up. [Cool]

From that it sounds like there's nothing inside that need to be pushed or anything ??? Is it enough just to twist it off using the the two holes in the lens? If there's no locking mechanism inside, I think maybe that's a nice solution, Lee

A little tip Vidar,if you're using anything metal near your lens, a
sudden slip could be costly, put a piece of tape over the glass for
protection.
