I bought a sound film but parts of the soundtrack are loose can I use film cement to reapply this or should I use something else?

Hi Jim,there is a solution specially made for stripe to film.I wouldn't
use film cement, which is acetone as it might damage your stripe.
Can you get in touch with a firm in America that stripes film.
There is one over here that does it and was put on the forum just
recently by David Ollerearnshaw for EVT MAGNETICS that still
stripe films. They would have the answer to your problem.
Contact them on email ; maltfilm@amserve.com
Hope this is of help Jim.

Hugh, the email you gave me comes back as The Amstrad Emailer service has been discontinued.
Is there another outfit I can contact?

Hi Jim, the easiest way is to go to "search",type in David
Ollerearnshaw, and in the topics click on "super 8 striping", there
is all the info.David managed to find a company over here that
still does it.I was wondering if a rubberised glue like EVOSTICK
could be used successfully on spots where the stripe is lifting.
A little tip would be to place some paper masking tape over the
film to protect the picture area from any stray glue.

It will never be as smooth at it used to be: the surface of the stripe will cause drop-outs and make the sound very unpleasant. My advice would be to record the missing portion of the soundtrack on the balance stripe (if present) or to have the balance track applied by a professional (Nick Maltezos at EVT Magnetics will do a great job). Of course playback will have to be bnoth tracks mono sound.

well the film has no balance track it appears that is was done afterwards it defiantly not a Blackhawk job, the music is homemade.

Hi Jim, did you ever try anything to fix it? I just got a film that is doing the same thing and the film isn't worth enough to get it professionally fixed.
