Hi All--

Looking at a Bell & Howell 468A projector.

Everything seems to be working okay, excepting the main roller. It is rubber-coated, and the rubber coating is disintegrating to the touch. More crumbling and flaking than turning to goo. I tried cleaning it with a little alcohol & it just turns cotton swabs black.

I have not yet tried it with film, but I would like to get it in shape. Any tips for restoring the rubber? Should I be on the look-out for a parts projector or is there a sensible way to fix this?

Thank you!

Alcohol will just dry it out more, I use this Rubber Rejuvenator on rollers. It sounds like your rubber may be too far gone for that though. A parts projector may be the way to go if you can't find someone selling individual parts. Sometimes they come up on Ebay.

Does anyone know if this would also bring to life the rubber disc drives of a Eumig 8xx projector?

Thanks

If the rubber is still in good shape but slipping the Rubber Rejuvenator can help. If it's cracking and falling apart it won't. This stuff is designed for rollers on things like printers and copy machines.

Sounds like I should look for a parts projector... anyone know by chance if other models sport the same type of main roller?

Thanks so much for the responses!
