A Happy New Year to everyone on the forum.

Looking to replace my old and trusted 8ft tripod screen. Does anyone know what are the best makes on the market these days.

I know that Da lite was once a good make of screens.

And can i find one which is 9 or 10ft long?

Any clues or links would be a great help.

I bought a new Da-lite about five years ago and have always been very pleased with it, even given the fact I use it 3 or 4 nights a week.

I'm not sure if tripods come that large. Mine is about 8 feet wide but it's a wall mount. I was able to mount it inside the top of a bay window behind the curtains, so when I roll it up it's put away too (no stowage...).

Thanks for the tip, i was really looking for a tripod or stand-alone screen which i can fold down and put away which is larger then my current screen.

I do know that Da-lite do a 8ft screen thou thought it would be easier to upgrade to a slightly larger screen.

The only purpose for this is that i get a slightly larger screen for scope 35mm projection indoors being 10ft.

I know there is only 2ft difference thou i guess if you are talking about scope presentation every little helps!

I have heard of those pop up screens thou not sure how good they are and if they can go as big as 9 or 10 ft.

Anyway hopefully someone in the UK can point me in the right direction if sourcing one is impossible from Da-lite UK.

Da-lite can supply up to 14' wide, the material is plastic which folds into quite a small space. The metal-work also folds.

Everything fits into a box which should fit into most cars.

I have one of these screens, although it is much smaller than the size which you are looking for. Mind you, they are not cheap!

Here's one in the UK D R H Screens Got one one these 72" tripod screens must be 35 years old now done sterling service, the only drawback it did not have black boarders, solved with blackboard paint.

The mobility factor is important.

If we use my wife's minivan and fold the rear seat down, shove the screen under the middle row seat and allow the end to come to rest underneath one of the front seats, the tailgate closes with about 4 inches to spare.

Given a larger screen or a smaller car I'm basically in trouble!

(This could result in a memorable moment at a car dealership someday...)

Thanks to everyone for their advice and direction along with links and details which i find very helpful and useful.

Unless i can find someone who has a 9 or 10ft screen on a tripod base then i suppose i will have to stick with what i have until something affordable comes along.

I cannot be 100% sure but i swear there was a company that was doing tripod based 10ft screens.

So if anyone knows of where to find a second hand one that would be most helpful for my purpose.

it looks like 244cmx244cm or 250cmx250cm is the maximum that's available with a tripod.
However there are some mobile screens that do have two "tripod-like"-stands that are 10 feet wide or larger, e.g.:

If you try some research on eBay, Amazon, etc, you'll find the amount on the market has now shot up considerably due to the digital boom. There are also plenty that are not square, due to demand for 4 x 3 and 16 x 9 formats. Although you are looking for an extra large screen in terms of what is available as tripods, you could also consider floor-mounted 'pull up' screens, which may be a better bet in terms of stability. I know these are available in widths of around 8 foot and probably wider.

Thanks once again to all for the additional information and replies. I suppose the best way forward for now is to either get a wall mounted drop down screen which would be limited in what you can do i.e. not portable.

Or finding a new 8ft screen which is very well made. I know some people don't like glass beaded screens. Thou would this be a good investment over standard Matt finish.

I know that on old glass beaded screens the light output changes if you are not sat direct in front of the screen. Thou this could be a possible choice if things have changed since then with screen surfaces and technology.

When I got my wall mount I figured it would stay on the two hooks it's hanging from, but I found that I liked the big picture so much that when I did remote shows I had to find a way for it to come along.

What I wound up doing is borrowing the tripods from two portable screens and dangling the wall mount from them.

Something else happened in the meantime: I built up an interface between my projector audio and my stereo. This adds the interface, the stereo amp, cabling and two or four speakers to the pile of stuff I'd want to bring along (and set up and take down and bring home and put back) if I was going to do it right, so remote shows are rarer these days: it's becoming like moving a circus between shows!

-but if I was doing it regularly I'd buy a set of commercial tripods: the kind used in trade show displays (for example). This would be much sturdier.
