As I continue my new foray into sound films. I have a copy of a Derann print of Halloween that has innumerable amounts of sound problems beginning with the fact that the stripe is not always on the film. One reel is almost completely missing the stripe - Is this fixable in any way such as re-striping?

Hi Dino,

It sounds like a job for EVT magnetics.

maltfilm@amserve.com

He's the only one I'd ever trust with something like this. Striping in of itself is an art, and this is beyond even that.

(It may be the prime of middle age talking here, but I seem to remember him offering a removal and restriping option.)

That sounds like a good lead from Steve, although check what kind of filmstock it is Dino, just to see if the chap can re stripe it.
Failing that, Dave Ollerearnshaw, did turn up a company in the UK that apparently still does it.Dave as you know is a member of the
forum.

Actually he's the same chap Dave uses. (It's a small world in film these days...)

A few years ago I made a couple of films that I wanted striped and I sent them to Nick Maltezos at EVT because the one supplier doing the work here was brand new to it and I wanted it done by somebody with a lot of experience. (Beyond that, the guy in California was so expensive it more than ate the difference in shipping cost.)

At the time I had a close friend in Norwich that handled the transaction for me and assessed the quality of the stripe before he sent the films here.

The end result is even though I have personally never been to the UK two of my films have been seen there!

Way to go Steve, hands across the sea,or should that be spool arms. As long as someone can do it, fingers crossed.

Nick of E.V.T. Magnetics is indeed still stiping as I sent a Derann 600ft part 1 reel out to him today. He suffered some ill health just before Christmas, last year, that meant there was some delay in receiving back any prints that were sent in October or November. He assured me today that my reel would be overstriped and back to me in 10 days, which by the sound of it, I suspect everything is running back to normal with the business. I was very pleased with my last job that I sent just prior to Christmas and would thoroughly recommend his services for anyone, like me, who has some mint prints suffering from poor magnetic stripe from the later Derann years.

Dino ....

If you can manage to wait for a little bit, Steve Osbourne is working on getting his mag striping up and running! I've already contacted him to do a job on a feature of mine and a short, and Steve said he'd let me know when he is up and running.

Give him a write or call.

Halloween, great feature!
