I know- weird subject. But seriously...

I own a Chinon 7000. Seeing as it is 35+ years old, do I need to do any lubrication? If so where and what kind of lubricant?

I'm assuming anything spray style is out.

Chad, I'm placing my head on the block, but any lubrication, is better than none. If you have squeaks etc, a squirt withy WD40
shouldn't do any harm.Until you get proper oils, WD shouldn't
give any troubles.

I have read on other film forums that wd40 should not be used. Your projector should have sealed motor bearings that do not need lubrication. However, your gears may need greasing. They are likely nylon and should be lubed with a synthetic lube, not a petrol based lube. I like Superlube. Don't overdo it.

I'd be concerned about a spray lube going someplace it shouldn't (optics, pinch roller, etc,), so i'd be a little wary regardless of what the spray actually was.

Wd40 does say it cleans any electric circuits, belts can be wiped with meths, WD40, do supply a hose to direct the spray.Surely
better than no lube at all.

OK so WD40 is out. I'm assuming you mean on the nylon/vinyl/plastic parts.

What about silicone spray?
