I recently came across a 400ft Star Wars digest among a batch of films I purchased. The spool is marked "Part 1" but appears to be a compilation of more than one part. some of the reel seems to be polyester, while some is acetate. The colour also changes along with the sound level. Unfortunately, there are a couple of drop outs during the title but otherwise, there are very few scratches and I would like to sell this film, possibly on Ebay. I have posted a youtube video of the reel, and wondered if some kind Star Wars buff could tell me what i have here? The video is private so only forum members can see it.

John,

What you have is a fan-made edit of the STAR WARS digests F-48 and F-64. That is why the sound and picture quality vary.

My digests are edited like this. If you are planing to sell it, hopefully you can find a Part 2 to make it complete. If not, maybe you can find another F-48 and F-64 and complete the edit yourself.

There was a very good discussion posted a few years ago about how to edit all the digests together.

If you do post it on eBay, you should add a link to the video you made or imbed it in the auction. Screenshots help as well.

Good Luck.

Thanks Chris for that very useful info. I do in fact have another copy of F48, which I see also runs for 16 minutes. I wondered why the "Fan editor" didn't use more footage from this digest to make the film longer, but now realise that there was enough material in the different digests to make a "Part 2" which I guess would be around the same length as my part one. I will be sure to include the youtube link if I list the film on Ebay as you suggest.

A couple years ago I bought what I thought was part one of the 400' Star Wars and it turned out to be "reel one" of all three parts (2 X 400' and 200') that where edited together. The edits are nice but the color and sound does vary. I ended up getting a full copy of all three parts edited together but I still have "reel one"...it's too bad neither of us have "reel two" and could complete the digest!

I would still like to get both 400' versions that are unedited and original.

You're welcome, John. Always happy to help.

This is my version of Part 1, Part 2 and the 200' version edited together in chronological order. The 200' digest has a few scenes that are not in the original F-48 400' film.

You can see that the footage from the F-64 film is more faded and is louder. I removed the Main Title and The Throne Room music otherwise Fox would have claimed copyright.

Bill,

I have a F-48 by itself. The extra footage from the 200' has been edited in. That footage is in the video. My 2x400' fan edit does not have it.

I once had a F-64 but it was completely faded and very scratched (old library copy). I've never had the 200' version by itself.

You can still find the 400' F-48 every now and then on eBay. Unfortunately, I rarely see the F-64 digest. You could always put it in your Saved Searches. eBay will notify you if one comes up.
