It's that time again. My GS autothread release started to hesitate and finally hang up, so I knew it was time once more to replace that front microswitch. The job took me a couple of hours, and I used a Radio Shack subminiature microswitch with the metal lever slightly trimmed off. The thread release now pops out very positively with no hesitation.
Every time I have had this problem it has always been the front switch that has failed. Someone was of the opinion that this was due to the proximity of this switch to the oil and grease from the shuttle mechanism and worm gear. I am not so sure, and suspect that this switch just may be getting more switching current than the contacts were really designed for. For some reason it seems to require replacement every few years.

I think I only had that problem on one of my GS machines and I have had many! How often do you use your machine? Just curious.

Once or twice a week.
