I've got home movie going back to the early 70s and I want to transfer them to DVD so that my kids and grandchildren will be able to watch them in the future. I'm a bit of a computer novice. So what I need to know is, is Windows Movie Maker a good enough programme to do this? I will want to edit the films and possibly change the order of shots etc. Thanks MIKE

Windows Live Movie Maker is great. I have three different video editing programs. I use Movie Maker the most because it's easy. It has some nice features and effects, too.

Remember to save and keep your video files. All my videos are on an external hard drive. Unfortunately, burned DVD's don't last forever. And like many things, they will eventually become obsolete.

Michael, Windows Live Movie Maker is for digital only, not for transferring your old cine films. I presume you have Windows 8, the earlier Windows Movie Maker on XP, Vista and Windows 7, I found is better. It is only for making a movie from your camcorder shots.

Michael, movie maker is fine. You will need someone to convert your movies to a digital format first though.
If paying someone, get them to output the films to a sequential image format rather than to 'dvd' as you will get much better results.
There are also some very nice free movie editors out there that do a better job than movie maker, but movie maker is an okay place to start.
