We had a rollicking good series of post concerning hat feature we would all like to see, (the winner was "balderunner", oh, wait a minute, THATS ME! Nope, that was "Bladerunner")

now, I'll hand this over to someone who wants to tally votes, but what do you think would make an exceptional digest?

My vote is ...

THE DARK KNIGHT

... second in the recent "Batman" series and an absolutely exceptional film. I usually do not like super hero films, but "Dark Knight" really was grand story telling.

Hell, just the wonderful long sequence when Batman faces down the Joker in the city streets of Gotham would make a great 400ft digest in and of itself!

Oooh, that's a tough one. "THE DARK KNIGHT" would of course be great, but there are many others aswell.

Personally, I'd love a 2x600 scope digest of Django Unchained.

** WARNING SPOILERS **

Django - Reel 1:
- Opening scene w credits
- Saloon scene
- Don Johnsons plantation scene
- Waltz telling Django about Brunnhilde
- First Calvin Candle scene

Django - Reel 2:
- Dinner scene -> Django/Waltz revealed
- First gunfight -> second gunfight
- Ending scene + edited credits

I think I might just get up my BR copy and edit it [Smile]

The Reel Image mentioned a Skyfall reel sometime soon. I asked Steve if that means a trailer or extract or what. He said he won't know till the lab sends him a copy.

Fingers crossed that it's a digest! That's the digest I'd be interested in.

Ernie, I can´t belive that. To find a Skyfall 35mm print is nearly impossible. There is a topic on the 35mm forum about Skyfall. If I remember right, there is only one print in collectors hand. And I don´t think this guy give his print for a 8mm release.

Most modern films I would rather see uncut. Exceptions would be really campy movies or horror movies. Most horror movies could be trimmed down to 30 minutes and still retain the narrative of the story.

Hi Oemer, you're right I'm aware there are few of them existing. Nonetheless just writing what it said in The Reel Image:

"Coming soon: A Skyfall reel and the trailer to Prometheus! If you are interested in either of these prints, please contact us!"

Just saying what I read from issue #32.

Even most modern features are possible on 35MM, as we are talking about, no doubt, overseas prints which, while they may have German or other language titles, would more likely be on 35MM over there, where they would be digital over here (speaking of the US).

From what I understand, the conversion to digital is taking a little longer hence, the continued need for 35MM hence, the possibility of modern features being released on super 8 due to still being needed on 35MM.

The Dark Knight should be available on 35mm. In 2008, about 80% of US theaters were still film. 2009 and prior you have a better chance of finding a film print. Anything prior and it gets kinda tricky as Oemer stated about Skyfall.

ok, I revise my statement. I found a source for Skyfall 35mm prints. So, if someone who want release Skyfall or a digist, I can get an original english 35mm print for you.

My vote is still for Super 8 :-) Bond is boring (did I curse in church now?)

Vidar many films that were shot on digital transferred to 35mm have been reduced to Super 8 for release.

But yes Skyfall was filmed digitally and optically printed for limited release on 35mm. Most notably for the MOMA event in 2012 about a year ago.

There also special reprints of the all the Bond films. As I understand they used some pretty heavy stock too.

I saw 'Skyfall' on 35mm in the UK, but 35mm is sadly drying up fast here, with just a small minority of films becoming available. Judging from comment on this forum, it looks like New Zealand could be the last place place where English language prints continue to be available for a while yet.

As a Hammer fan, I'd love a 'scope digest of 'The Woman In Black'.

This might sound crazy but I actually think the Star Wars prequels would be great digests. I don't like them in their entirety but if the prequel trilogy came out as a 3x600' release.

I would be keeping only the good and redeemable aspects from those films and the pacing would feel almost like the original serials that they were inspired by.

I agree Ernie ... what I wanted to do with "Revenge of the Sith", was to get what I already have, ending with the crash landing on the planet ...

Then shoot straight ahead to when the Emperor is confronted, and from that point on, the rest of the film, all that other stuff in the middle I wasn't about to pay top dollar for.
