Hi appreciate ideas, suggestions etc please as I want to make a guide for 8mm film to run over approximately 12mm long and 5mm wide.

Across the 12mm I would like it to sweep down form each side from 3mm to 1mm in the middle. Or 4mm -1.5mm would be OK too.

And from that curve to also sweep down to each side to the edges of the 5mm to nothing.

Does that make sense.

Its to super glue in to a film path for super 8 film to run over and not catch when threading as well hence sweeping down to nothing on each side of the 5mm.

I just wondered if theres anything you can buy to work in to that shape, or anyone do that sort of thing please.

PS I suppose if I had a 6/8mm diameter roller 10-12mm wide cutting it in half would work nicely to do the job. Thanks.

Delrin is a wonderful material for things like this: it's easy to shape and it's naturally slippery (very commonly used for small bearings). It's not expensive and the raw stock is available in many different shapes.

I've machined film rollers out of Delrin rod just by slipping a piece of rod on a drill bit, chucking it in my drill press and shaping it with small files. It's cheap enough I can even mess a few of them up before I produce one that's a keeper.

The drawback is it's very hard to bond to it. I used some in a model car I've been building on and off for a couple of years for axle tubes. They are fantastic for rolling qualities but the only way I could cement them in place is to machine a couple of grooves on the outside of the Delrin tubes, put a layer of shrink tubing around them and then glue to the shrink tubing. (the grooves were to give the tube a way to hold onto the Delrin, otherwise it tended to slip from side to side.)

In your case you might need to drill holes and install small nuts and screws.

I used Delrin to machine new bearings for the motor pivot bearings on my old Eumig S802. The Delrin is far superior to the material that Eumig used, which seems to crumble on many 800 projectors. Delrin is also a great material for film rollers.

On this one I think I need to super glue it in or epoxy so maybe need another type. But very good to know about this one.
