I was about to buy The Sting off Perry, asked if it was red, he was gonna check for me. Felt gooey, so he said I could have it for free. Happy about that ... When I came home, I tried cleaning it, but the picture on the film disappears ... I can't run it as it is, as it's very gooey still. I think I'll end up with a blank leader film of approx. 700' :-/

Is this how a film reacts to film cleaning solution if it's not removed after being applied?

Thanks for any clarification

So still looking for a decent The Sting 2x400', a 1941 2x400 ... Anyone has any of these two for sale?

Never seen this happen as a result of film cleaner.

I reckon this is a very bad print that wasn't "fixed" correctly when originally processed.

Never seen this in all my days collecting.

I'd bin it and keep looking. [Smile]

I had it once but with water on the stock, not filmcleaner.

Yes, but film is washed in water post processing, so even that wouldn't cause the image to vanish.

Very bad piece of film!

It happened to a very old film. I don't know what causes that.

I would give it a go at cleaning with Isopropyl Alcohol using plenty of clean cloths as they get messy, then if you feel you are down to ‘the wood’ AKA a clean film base apply a good film cleaner that evaporates. You will have polyester film in The Sting by the way and it sounds to me as though someone may have overdone the 2.22 big time previously which will float on its surface. Do about 10ft first then leave for a couple of days to see what happens.
