I have a customer who has regular 8mm sound reels and I can't seem to find any place that transfers 8mm sound. I can do Super 8, but no 8mm. I've read that 8mm sound was usually recorded on the reel after the video was recorded, or the audio was recorded with another device during the filming. Can anybody give some good information about 8mm sound, or even point to a good resource on the web. Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply Maurice. I actually know the company pretty well and am located in the SF Bay Area. They are one of the companies that I'll recommend if my customer chooses to have all his materials transferred by one company.

As you say, standard (regular) 8 sound tracks were usually recorded directly with the use of a magnetic sound projector.
Sound would have usually been "wild", perhaps location sound via a tape/cassette recorder mixed with a commentary recorded live. In some cases the commentary might have been recorded separately on tape and then mixed with the original sound to form the finished track.
