Just want to know if i can buy and watch stereo movies on my elmo st1200d as it is mono.Not sure how this would work if at all. Just wondering if i am limited to what i can purchase in the future thanks.

I have a 1200HD. Ive been told that I can get stereo to work if I use the dual outputs on the back. But everytime I try that, the projector defaults to the built in speaker.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong.

Ah you have the HD where mine is only D so you should be able to have stereo were as i prob cant.

Ernie, I guess you should input those Track 1 and Track 2 outputs into an external amplifier, regardless of the built-in speaker. When you plug a cord into those outlets, you are not suppsed to disability that speaker, they are neither external speakers' connections nor a headphone connection, so the built-in speaker will keep working unless you turn the volume knob all the way down. From what I heard the ST 1200 HD keeps the two tracks separate up to the main amp stage; when you plug the line outputs to an external amplifier, you divert the sound signal from the built-in preamp (with 2 discrete channels) to the ext main amp, whereas if you have the built-in main amp do the job, the two tracks will eventually merge. I hope this helps.

Most stereo films play just fine on monaural projectors. Every so often you run into one with a lot of seperation between tracks and when the signal is entirely on the unread track it will sound like a dropout on a mono machine.

I have a print of "Toot, Whistle, Plunk and Boom" which went back to Derann for re-recording and was still "wrong" when it came back here.

-until I figured out the real problem was the monaural projector I was using.

(but on my ST-1200HD it sounds just fine.)

You can watch stereo movies but the sound will be a mix of the two tracks, not stereo...

Thanks for that so would it be best to just avoid buying anything stereo then until i get a stereo projector that is?

I don't think you should let that stop you, especially if you really want the film.

-Odds are they will sound OK anyway, and the few that don't you set aside and have something to look forward to.
