Just put my new copy of King kong on to watch and discovered it is in French. Have i missed something here? I wasnt aware it was French other wise i would have not have bought it. Nothing against the French language just i dont speak it is all. Should i have
known i was getting a French copy?

Yes you should have known if it was stated in the auction or source of the posting. If it wasn't then you have a gripe. I would double check the source. If you can't get any results from that I would be willing to buy it from you. I don't understand French but I will try and redub the sound to English. Good luck!

Hi Pasquale i dont think there will be an issue returning it i got it from Phil at Classic. More the question did i miss something and the only copies left are in French [Smile]

I know Phil didnt realise it was in French as im sure he would have told me straight away.How would you dub it back into English man i have so much to learn here.

I bought A Star Is Born (Striesand) on ebay from a guy in Mexico and was surprised it was in Spanish or maybe Mexican but thankfully the music was the original english.But I am still pleased to own it

It is unfortunate that often films for sale are not checked by the seller. One UK dealer told me that he does not have time to run his films through a projector. However, I am pleased to say that Barry Attwood of Independent 8 says he always runs his films to check them before sale.

Re recording ‘abridged’ films to perfection is a fine art and not for the faint hearted. If a print is special to you, a rare issue, excellent print or you just want to improve the audio quality it is worth doing. Over the years I’ve particularly enjoyed converting mono tracks to stereo which is a lengthy process but quite a thrill when it hits the screen with the audience listening to the results.Basically if you want to squeeze the maximum form 8 you need to re-record the sound track at regular speed and with good tackle.

Clinton good that you didnt loose evergreen my wife looks at me funny when i listen to it even though i try to explain the story behind the take. Lee i think on this occasion would be easier to return it i appreciate the offer though and im interested to know more about the process.

Be aware that the French version is different from the American one. The beginning of the film was cut in the French theaters version.

Dominique yes it starts out straight from the boat so would imagine rest of movie is there after that. I am considering getting it redubbed back into English now [Smile]

King Kong in French? I would like that, it's a beautiful language. After a year and a half, the twins have become quite proficient in French. I am still not. I am jealous. My brain has become a concrete sphere upon which all incoming data now merely bounces off. (Yet I still retain all the words and melodies to 1960's TV commercial jingles.) C'est frustrant. Oui.

Paul, if you translate litterally it is : "C'est la beauté qui a tué la bête". Is it sentence of the film or something famous ?

As I recall Dominique,and I have'nt seen King Kong in quite a while (so excuse me if I am wrong), that was the last sentence of the film, uttered over the dead body of Kong lying at the base of the Empire State building.

I haven't seen it for a while, neither and my super 8 version is...in English, so I cannot check how it was precisely translated in French (youtube hasn't, although the search engine states the full version in French). I will try to find out. by the way, looking at youtube, I saw a 1933 like version with lego :-)

How interesting re. French King Kong. As a member of 9.5 group, I receive their quarterly magazine, and have dug up the winter 2011 edition which has notes on this subject. Years ago the French released King Kong on 9.5mm (reg.no. GS.70106) with the story beginning on ship where the Fay Wray character is being photographed. A rolling title at the start filled in the story up to that part. Apparently the french dubb was awful quality, and the cinema version was just as bad!
Incidentally, the 9.5 version apparently had all the bits in that were later censored out and only fairly recently put back. I doubt that it included the long lost spider pit sequence, though. Now that would be a find!
