Trying to figure out exactly what these are... I know they are 8mm with sound. Does anyone have info on these? What kind of projector do I need? I am very new to this, so be gentle.

Hi Dexter, and welcome to the Forum! I had a few of these cartridges some time ago. They are promo films that car dealers used in the showroom and/or training. They run the film on a continuous loop. Mine were super 8mm and when removed from the cartridge onto a reel they can be used on a projector like any other film....

I have one of these. I cracked open the cartridge and put it on a 200' reel. It does have an optical soundtrack though. Still has decent color.

Terry, Mine had magnetic sound tracks. I remember it was tough opening the cartridges. There is an easier way I saw somewhere on the internet, but I can't remember where....

Opening the cartridge was not tooo bad - but yes there must be an easier way!

I did finally get to hear the soundtrack when Winbert was still in Ontario. He played it on his GS1200 M/O for me. Good to know there are magnet soundtrack versions too as some of these can be kind of fun.

Hi Dexter,

This what we call a loop cartridge. There were several brands in the market (they were not compatible each other), your is Technicolor. The cartridges come in various length, such as 100', 200', 400' and (the largest) 600'.

ps: one other brand that I can remember is Fairchild.

You have to get a Technicolor projector. Like the below picture:

What I knew, the projector itself can only take one type of length, meaning if you buy 200' projector then it cannot play the other length.

This loop projector was initially used for promotional purposes like we did with Power point today.

But later I also found Hollywood packed film in these type of cartridges.
