So I've been collecting 8mm films since 1975 and have never thought of what this part of the projector is "Technically" called...

The spinning mechanism on both of the two arms of the projector where you place the film reel on. On a Dual 8 machine you have to use the Super 8 "Thimble" like adapter so the reel doesn't fall off. What I have commonly referred to as "That spinny thingy" for over forty years.

Thanks!

It's a "spindle", just like a phonograph or a spinning wheel.

-between these three things I guess there are a lot less spindles in the world today!

At least we still have the ones that car wheels are mounted on.
