I just got a used film, and the scratches are a 'burgundy' colour, I have cleaned the film but they are still there, has any-one else ever come across scratches this colour?, I've had the normal black lines and green deep scratch but this colour is something else...By the way the film is 'Bandolero'...

That's interesting Steve.

I remember in the 70's and 80's, working at my local grindhouse cinema, we would get well-used second and third run prints. They would sometimes have the most colorful scratches, usually closer to the beginning of the film. A thing of beauty, especially when over a dark back ground. Like a fireworks display [Smile] . I miss all those little quirky things now.

James.

I can only think these might be negative emulsion scratches that would be green on the negative and print as red. I know all the lawns show up as green on my still film negatives.

At first I thought it was dye transfer from my micro fibre cloth, then I thought no,it would have to be good to dye film all the way through, then I spotted red blotches just like neg blotches in the title sequence, so I have come to the conclusion that this is a bad lab copy that some-one got cheap first time around, then passed it on to me via e-bay, no mention of marks in description, you can't always believe your own luck on the old 'Bay', it's my own fault...

I've seen red blotches from a bad negative or printing fault myself Steve.
I have also seen white flecks from a lab defect while printing but never red emulsion scratches so far. Very strange.

All the negative emulsion scratches I have so far come across appear white on even colour stock.
